I am actually waiting on their new root beer version :)
Have You seen any pictures of the root beer version that aren't the standard stock shots? i'm sure and believe it looks better in hand but the pictures i've been able to find are lackluster, stocky. If not eventually You'll post shots of Yours or someone here is bound to get one.

brown or bronze really is yummy for me!!! thanks for the pic! although not too keen on the magnifier (cyclops?). also, imo i think it would look better on a brown custom leather strap.

wow. I really like the RootBeer look. (I just got turned on to that style reading about Clint Eastwood's often worn RootBeer Rolex).

The Squale looks great. I'd like to see that in a 44.

While not in the same class as Steinhart or Squale, if you want to keep it affordable the Invicta 8926OB is good option (donning flame retardant suit).

For the money, the Invicta Pro Divers are hard to beat. I have a Miyota powered one that is about 8 years old and beat to hell but runs like a top.

Having owned a Sea Dweller, it seemed as though the steel case was bullet proof. No desk diving swirls etc, at least not noticeable. Any homage watches out there with the Steinhart/Hagar look.
cW of course
I have to back this up! My Sub-C is virtually scratch free! The 904l seems to hold up a lot better than the 316l.

904L is about 3X more expensive than 316L...maybe that is why more brands do not use it...

The entire watch is made out of 904L stainless steel.

904L used in a Rolex case is definitely way more resistent to scratching than others that utilize 316L. For example, my sub is virtually scratch free, where my PO42 tends to get scratches easily.

The reasons for this could be attributed to the manufacturing process and that the 904Lused by Rolex isworked hardened. I believe that Rolex punches their steel out from a solid billet, which essentially increases the toughness or
hardness of the steel around the edges of the puched steel. This old fashioned process works very well because of the grain of the steel is elevated.

The only mention of their process that I could find on the Rolex website was this: "Rolex has chosen a special process that involves recasting the steel under vacuum in order to meet required standards of purity. This produces an outstanding stainless steel alloy, with an extremely high resistance to corrosion, guaranteed durability and an immaculate mirror finish.

I have no idea how hardness relates to scratching. I think some of the scratching issues are due to the finishing of the steel not the type of steel. I know on my two-tone Sub only the gold in the bracelet ever showed any wear. But even with my titanium or non 904Lwatchesscratches have not been a problem for me.
