About OTUMM Watches:

"A safe home port is the foundation for success, both in your business and in your personal life."

OTUMM is a young and dynamic brand of timepieces inspired by the marine chronometer which was used in the past to navigate and safely guide ships back to their home port.

OTUMM created a modern design for the antique chronometer and translated navigating into a watch that appeals to people who know where they stand in modern society. OTUMM feels like a haven for those who know what the world has to offer and who know how to enjoy quality time when surrounded by speed, luxury and freedom.

OTUMM is a Dutch owned brand based in Amsterdam that firmly stands for "Lifestyle at a high level". OTUMM is the engagement of the sensation for freedom, speed and luxury with today’s technology with the taste for the classical, the modesty and the nobility of the traditional timepiece.

In 2012 our first watches have become reality in cooperation with Swiss designers. The first OTUMM collection "Speed" is the combination of classical and modern details, while being true to our beliefs that a timepiece needs to be remarkable in it’s class, contemporary and dynamic.

First Impressions:

As I opened the shipping box, I was very impressed by the packing that this watch came in. I would call this ‘UPSCALE” packaging.

Once I open the watch box my first thought was, “Is that a Hublot”?

Image

Packaging: Outer and inner boxes are included. The packaging is very upscale. The inner box has a tray that is removable and can be used as a watch stand.

The watch was carefully packed in the box.. The crystal was protected by a plastic film.

I did not find an instruction manual or warranty card included in the box.

Case (Crown side): The crown is blue. I recently learned that companies are doing this now and that the protective film is applied to the crown to protect it during shipping. The blue comes off if you apply a lit match to it.

The crown is engraved with the M. The ‘M’ is the same logo that is on the inside and outside of the box. The crown feels sturdy and moves to its stop positions with ease. The pushers operate as expected. The chrono resets nicely to the zero positions.

Image

Case (Non Crown): Nice finish to the case. Not much else to see here.

Image

Bezel, Dial, Hands: I like the dial layout. The date window is at the 4 position. It has black numbers on a white background and that helps with visibility. The lighter colored subdials stand out nicely against the black dial. The numerals appear to be applied to the dial as blocks so that they are slightly raised. There is minimum writing on the dial. The model “Speed” appears between the 7 and 8 indices. The dial identifies the movement as Swiss at the 6 position. There is the WR rating printed around the lower chronograph subdial.

Case Back: Standard case back with all the typical information imprinted.

Image

Strap:
Very soft silicone strap supplied with the watch. I’d guess you are OK up to about an 8.5” wrist. The buckle is engraved and there is a dual keeper system. The strap has plate on both sides engraved with the company name.

Nice stamped buckle and two keepers on the silicone strap.

Lume: Only the hands are lumed. That includes the hands of two of the subdials. I’d rate the lume as poor on this model. The skeletonized minute hand has only a small portion of the distal end of the hand lumed. The smaller hour hand has more lume but not enough to make a huge difference. I like the font used for the numerals. I think they could have added a bit of lume to the numerals and maybe even the indices. That would have given the watch a better low light presence.

Comparison: Here is a comparison photo next to my Orient M-Force. I think the OTUMM wears a bit larger than its stated size because of the shape of the case.

Next to my UNIQ GAF for size and lume comparison:

WRIST SHOT:
Very nice fit and curves nicely to my 8.25” wrist. The 45mm case gives this watch a strong wrist presence without being overbearing. I think the 53mm case would be huge and only those who like those very large case sizes should even attempt it.

Summary: I’ve been wearing this watch for a few days now and I must admit that I like it more than I thought I would when I first put it on my wrist. The silicone strap, which I do not wear on any other piece in my collection, is very comfortable. The watch is extremely comfortable to wear for an entire day. I would classify this watch as a sport watch, but the color combo allows you to dress up with it. The silver and black looks good on the golf course or out to dinner. The strap is long enough for my 8.25 inch wrist, but larger guys might want to proceed with caution. The lume is poor and I would like to see them beef up the lume on this watch. They certainly spent some money on the packaging and maybe they could find a few extra dollars to lume the numerals and the indices. Overall I think most Freeks would be happy with this watch in their collection. The Ronda movement is reliable and the chronograph functions are precise. The overall fit and finish is above average for a $365 watch. OTUMM is not a household name at this time, but if they keep producing watches of this caliber I think you will be hearing more from them in the future.

Nice review.

The watch not so nice in my opinion. I have never really liked the Hublot this copies. I mean come on....change a few other things if your going to make an "homage" to an icon in the watch world.

"OTUMM created a modern design for the antique chronometer and translated navigating into a watch ..." WOW :lol

Watch looks nice enough, not my style at all though.

I guess even though I dont care for the Hublot homage that it is, I cant really complain about it, as so many companies have homages, whether it be Ocean7 and the Ploprof homage, the Steinhart Ocean1 that so many own, etc.
