Given the prices of a Rolex, only a lawyer can actually afford one, so maybe they're just throwing a bone to their customers?

This is hardly the first time they have sued someone in order to steal their ideas..

2019 Rolex sues La Californienne for refurbing old Rolexes and putting colourful dials on them: Rolex is suing La Californienne for its custom 'counterfeit' watches — Rescapement

2020 Rolex comes out with Oyster Perpetual with colourful dials: The Rolex Oyster Perpetual

Coincidence? Likely not. Rolex, as a company, is a nasty piece of work. But, they then whitewash their corporate image by donating a pittance to a few random charities and making a press release about it.

Seems kind of strange to be so worried about word on a watch that
you would bring a lawsuit. But unfortunately it seems to be the thing
to do for companies, and brands. And usually the bigger ones in most
cases right?! ..I didn't even realize the word milsub was so important
honestly. You would thing maybe Rolex would come up with something
different, and use that instead. But I think FB basically said it all here
above. 😉This is unfortunately something Rolex, and larger brands,
and companies do. It's like a never ending cycle unfortunately.

Really appreciate you reporting on this though True. Thank you !!!

Thanks Tom

on other forums the reasoning seems to be along the lines of "Bullies will bully..." (simply because they can)

Or, like with La Californiene, they're wanting to come out with some atrociously expensive "vintage" designed Submariner and want to use this name as the trademark.

Frankly, that article was an eye-opener

The fact that the watch itself uses many style characteristics from a number of Rolex Subs isn't of their concern so it seems, what leads me to believe that is has become generic and thus can be used freely. There's a certain brand of electronics named after a fruit that follows more or less the same route, crushing small brands in their path. (Or buying them and closing them down). BTW, I like the watch!
