Just wanted to give everyone the heads up to be very careful now during the holidays. I just received a phone call from Target financial asking me if I applied for a credit card recently. The crazy thing is they called me on my cell phone...So apparently the thief had some wrong info and it raised a red flag so they did not approve the credit card and called me. I then had to call the credit bureau to put the red flag on my name. So now if any other credit cards are being applied for they will call me on the cell...this totally ruined my night...2 hours on the phone..I cannot imagine how they had my SS# and my name. I am so careful but apparently not careful enough...So i just wanted to give the heads up to everyone to be on the top of your game when it comes to your name...I am so glad they did not approve it...Now i have to go to the police station to file a report. I hope they catch this low life...Cameras are a great tool especially when they have the register this person applied for the credit card. Has this happened to anyone else?

It's very weird how they get the info and sometimes there appears to be no rhyme or reason....my deal happened in Florida (I'm in Seattle) of all places. The good news is that they (credit bureaus) are better prepared these days to handle these situations.

So i have an update...Today i received a call from AT&t...apparently the loser lowlife tried to open an account with them and ordered 2 Iphone's and was sending it to PA...I am afraid to find out what else was done when my credit report shows up...Who knows when this started and what damage was done already...I have to say Freeks...This has totally stressed me out and I feel so uncomfortable that someone has all my info and is trying to do what ever they want with it...I truly hope this person is caught by the police because if I find out who is doing this...they are gonna wish it was the police...

I'm sorry this happened to you, Jack. It stinks that people out there steal and what not, but I guess it's not going to change any time soon so your warning is something we ALL need to take seriously. If you ever figure out how they got your social, please let us know.

Best of luck getting this straightened out with a minimum of (additional) headaches.

David
Thanks David much appreciated..I will definitely let everyone know if I end up finding out how this happened...I may never know but I sure will try my best to find out...

This unfortunately is the new crime of the century. The internet can be your best friend and your worst enemy. I believe that most of the personal information is being stolen off of the web. I'm currently investigating cases where criminals will park near a gas station and when you swipe your credit card at the pump these folks intercept the transmission between the pump and the gas stations computer. It is all being done electronically. Be careful at all times. Try to use cash when you can and always be cautious when making online purchases.
Thanx WG58 for the tip...I will keep that in mind and try to use cash more often.

Your welcome. It is a crazy scheme these guys are doing, but they have made off with lots of money. I'm now using cash a lot more then I did 2-3 years ago. I try to get cash at the bank and then pay for all my purchases with it. I would also be very cautious of those pimply facedteenage kids at the fast food places. They are writing down your credit card number or printing out duplicate receipts when you swipe your card for lunch or dinner.
Excellent tips...This is why I posted about this so that everyone can be aware and not get caught out there like I did...Check all your credit cards, debit cards and even check your credit report...You never know...
