When I was going through my wristwatch annual 2005 magazine checking out Hanhart watches, I actually checked out Harwood watches as well and found out that they patented the first automatic watches. Although the brand is no longer in existence, the last watches they produced were pretty neat in that instead of having a crown you set the time by manipulating its bezel

Yet another outstanding article to start off the week, thanks a ton True !!! (y)😀

What's amazing to me is how I believe I must have heard this at some point.
But have to admit as I am writing this, I did not, or do not recall the gigantic
impact Mr. Harwood had on watches. And still does to this day ! 😮It's really
something sir, not to mention amazes because the basic design is still used
in countless watches today. Wow, just wow !

This hobby never ceases to amaze. ..We are always learning True. 😉Want
to thank you once again !

I got this a couple of years ago from Ashford. I think it was $444.00, I got it because the umbrella company it was under was the same over Fortis and Ball and knew thsee to be trustworthy brands. It’s made very well, quality and detail.

I don’t know if this was a one time deal they did, by putting out this and the black dial version or if they intended to go forward with the brand. I can’t seem to find any new models of Harwoods for sale after this one though.

If you want to include pocket watches the history of the self winding watch is much longer than you would think. It is very thoroughly covered in the book "The History Of The Self Winding Watch 1770-1931" published in English in Switzerland in 1956. Last I checked Amazon had a few copies available in used condition.
