I can barely get spring bars off without it being a whole project. :anim_63:
But I know there are a few guys that either have a real talent at
modding. Or have even tried to build their very own watches here
Unbelievable. :)

I tried to adjust the timing on a $500 Seiko and accidentally hit the balance spring and now the watch is DOA. I will never try to fool with a movement again!

Strap, bracelet and bezel changes yep, otherwise it's hands-off for me!

I work on my own but for the most part that's about it, I was just wondering if anyone else here has ventured inside the working of their watch?

Yeah, the balance wheel spring in a watch is so delicate that one false move and the only way back is a replacement.

I've replaced a balance wheel assembly a few times and I've never felt relaxed while doing it!

I bought a bag of watches on Ebay for $20. They were all quartz, and I practice on them. I find it very relaxing and a way to keep me in the hobby and not buying watches. I am trying to work my way up to messing with a mechanical movement.

My biggest project was taking a friends quartz invicta apart, replacing the crown, battery, spring pins and cleaning years of gunk out. Also learned how to calibrate the chrono hands with the crown and pushers.

Every journey starts with the first step...

I can do a fair bit, I’ve done movement changes hands, dials stems etc but when it comes to balance wheels, or mainsprings they go to my watch maker, he’s so reasonably priced that I’ve started sending him everything now, as I have messed a few up at times.
