White dials

A recent self realization:

My collection consists mostly of dark dials, each one a beauty in my eyes - however it's the white dials that most appeal to me. When I step back (and watch my winder at work) it's the white dial watches that catch my eye.

My guess is that's contrary to most watch wearers.

I think you are right on with the white dials honestly Wrascal. :)
Because let’s face it, white dials are brighter AND overall also
maybe a bit more unique. Or at least more scarce in everyone’s
watch collections. ;) (y)So they will definitely catch the eye.
Or honestly, both eyes !! 👀:D

What a hat trick of beauty there sir. ..Thanks a bunch for sharing
as well as coming up with such a phenomenal topic !!!
How accurate is the date just?
According to my Watch Tracker (phone) software: since 4/17/23 this DJ is running at +2.7 SPD.
She gets worn one day/ week, the rest of the time she's on a winder.

I like white dials but I don't have one. I like hands with a sharp contrast to the face though.

Lucky Sir Wrascal.
The white dial is the classic color for watches and was actually required for railroad pocket watches for years, along with black Arabic numbers and black hands. Dark dials are primarily a post WW2 style change I believe based on the illustrated wrist watches in my copies of "The complete price guide to watches". My personal best white dial watch is a Casio G Steel solar radio synchronized GST-W110D, ordered from a Japanese seller on Amazon as not a Casio USA import, which could have better contrast between the dial and hands IMO.

Here's another one of my white face watches. Originally it was my great grandfathers (RIP 1941) RR watch (dated 1908). Great gramps passed it along to his oldest grandson (my father) who passed it along to me (2000, RIP); when I received it it hadn't been running for many years. This past year I had it serviced, then recased. A vintage Etsy pocket chain purchase is due later this week.

I'm putting together a modest display, along with some pics of these two greats; Great granny passed in the mid 60's, I remember her. My best memory of her: the time she set her frizzy hair on fire (cigarette smoker) and I beat it out with my bare hands. Not realizing that she was on fire she thought I'd lost my mind!

I will use the sterling silver chain to link the two wood blocks together. The now empty case is how I inherited the watch, damaged and not vintage to the movement; I do not know who or when it was recased, but I wish to keep it all together.

Most unfortunately my watch shop has not been able to locate a vintage quality case, I had to settle for this vintage nickel case. Maybe someday a quality one will turn up.

Maybe you can post some pics then?
Because of this memorial my fathers youngest sister (just several years old than I) is gifting me another family heirloom - a (non-working) mantle clock.

She remembers it in her house while growing up, then some other relative took possession of it. The story she was told by this relative - it eventually stopped working - and some time much later they took it in for repairs. The news they heard was that it couldn't be fixed - so was about to trash it. My aunt took it home as a momento.

Shes had it for many years, just sitting around. And soon it'll be mine (thank you Aunt Darlene).

I’ve heard of this type of current position concerning Russian watches many times in the last year. It always makes me wonder if the Russian government was less evil at the time of purchase than they are now?
And….what about the Chinese Communist Party? Aren’t they equally of questionable character? I’m not aware and have not heard of people not wearing watches that are made in China. Just thinking out loud

I use these to hang most of my watches. I have lots and lots and could put some in an envelope for you.

In both cases it's a personal choice.

Thank you for the offer, but I'll pass (I have white ones to hang my belts on).

I'm wanting something rustic, like a blackened horse shoe nail.
