What's up with the "E"?

I bought a Combat Sub about 6 weeks ago and noticed this "E" stamped on the back of the watch. Does anybody know what it stands for?

Now that you've posted this, I recall seeing one online not too long ago with an "l" engraved on a lug (not sure if it was an i or L).

Would be interested to know too.
