Thanks Spaceview .....Don't want to sidetrack the thread but ...
When I gave it to my son it had 36,000 miles on it.
Never winter driven and only a few times in the rain.
He did a complete restoration a few years ago. The 40 year old
car was getting tired looking. He has the original engine sitting
on a stand in his garage. He built a new motor for it so the original
would always be there to put back in it.
Appraised value of a car and what you can sell it for are 2 different things.
This one is especially rare because of the colour combo and options it has.
Only a handful were sold like this one back in 1973. It's a medium orange
Type LT with the Z28 option. It's insured for 60k
I picked up a restored 1971 Z28 when I gave him the Camaro so that we can do
cruise nights and shows together. We're both gear-heads.
Mine was a 1972 Camaro ss396 with silver body and hounds tooth interior (sorry no pictures)... I bought it used... after driving it about a month I had to have the transmission rebuilt along with a new clutch... I still recall the acceleration... and the exquisite leather interior ... I don't remember what I paid used but do recall loosing $500 when I sold it in 1975, for a 1974 Mercury Capri, 3 speed in A1 condition which I drove for 5 years...
I saw the car going for $35,000 in an auto auction in Alabama... as I recall that car went for just over $6500 in 1972 new so over 4 decades the car appreciated about $28500... I have no idea what the owner put into the car in repairs and maintenance ...
I'm almost 65 years old and I have owned "many" cars but to be completely honest this was indeed my first car.
I took my first date out in this car ( photo borrowed from web ) I didn't own a camera back then. I have many good memories! This car...for it's time... was plenty fast and I won many a drag race with it. Many friends were blown away when an "Oldsmobile" took them off the line..
By the way..that first date in my first car has been my wife for 47 years!
