Received today ...

from the WindUp shop; these are both from the model 2 premium line ($95 each). One in stone gray, one in olive.
Components from Horween and Wickett & Craig Leather
Initial assessment is they're pretty thin and have a velvety feel to them.

Each will be eval'd on a Boldr Venture (quartz). FYI: they will both routinly get wet.
Fortunately they each came with an extra pair of "rocket" springbars.

EDIT IN, I just realized the two current straps also both came from WindUp ($29 each). The top greenish (NATO Style) strap is from their parade line (feels like a seatbelt) while the lower gray (single-pass) strap is more of a (heavier) military nylon. I preferred the military version (style and nylon) over the other, YMMV.

You are starting off the year in style it looks like Wrascal. ;)

They all look terrific, and like they should be able to handle what
you have in store for them. Or what you may throw at them.
So it will be a lot of fun hearing how you like them when the
going gets tough. But I think they will be well worth the price.
Not to mention, possibly last a lifetime. Which would be just
fantastic. ..Some times you get what you pay for, and this
seems like one of those times. (y)(y)

I think your Boldr is in for a real treat. ..A DOUBLE dueling
congrats here to you Wrascal !!

Success, not a single springbar was launched (although one was quite balky about returning to where I wanted it).
So here they are - along with my older, heavier unlined black Horween band (from Boldr, $49+$30 s&h); again on a Boldr Venture - this one an NH35A auto).

Both of the above WindUp straps have now seen wrist time, and both have intentionally been water-logged; once wet they both appeared to be black - however the color returns as they (quickly) dry out.

Second observation: while the WindUp metal (SS) buckles look nice/ feels solid I believe they're some-what cheaply made: the tongue kinda wants to go wherever (side to side movement) - making it difficult to place in a hole (and the holes are smallish so it's a tricky fit); I wish they chose to use oval holes (vs. round holes/ problem solved). Once hooked up it does all seem fine and well.

Here's another (custom ordered) strap , it's likely my most durable strap (Gator) - yet I treat it (and the attached Seiko) delicately, no playing in the mud/ slamming it about; actually these two get very little wrist time. I ordered the strap last summer / from Vintager Straps, $210; it required about 3-4 weeks advance.

EDIT: I just checked, he's now needing 4-5 weeks advance. He must be busy with his new-born.

Wrascal, I think, or at least hope that the holes on those WindUps
with get more, and more worn in over time there. :) Becoming,
a little closer to that oval shape you want. (y)(y) But at least in
the meantime, they're both fitting nice, and secure. Not to mention,
look extremely nice, as well as cool also. AND evidently look just
as classy when wet. 😉

Man, and that Gator looks really terrific as well. Thanks so
much for the report !!!

Yesterday I complained to WindUp about this particular buckle choice; in my message I told them I was keeping the bands (and not seeking a refund - nor replacements) but rather informing them of my opinion on how they can improve this strap (different buckle and oval holes).

Well ... I just received a courteous Thank You note and a $19 refund (10%).
So a shout out goes to WindUp: https://windupwatchshop.com/collections/watches

Wow, that was very thoughtful of them Wrascal. 😀😎

It shows that they have a nice way of looking at complaints people
have right?! ..They look at them in a positive light it seems, as well
as an opportunity to both make things right, and improve things I
bet. Very cool ! (y)

So I've now lived several short days with the two above premium leather straps from WindUp and although they're OK I feel my single leather example from Boldr is better suited to me.

The Boldr Horween strap is more substantial, resists water better and has a much better buckle; it's biggest drawback is its shipping charge ($30). Then again it only totals $79 FedEx delivered (from Taiwan/ Malaysia, in about 7 days). Well that plus Boldr's current shortage of what colors are available.

I sense the WindUp straps "swell up" when wet - making it difficult to lace thru the first metal keeper; in fairness though they do look/ feel good and they dry out fairly quick. Still (based upon my overall feeling) - between these premium 2 WindUp leathers - or my existing nylons - I will give these leathers up (form over beauty).

Therefore (if your searching for leather) I believe the longer term "tougher" survivor award goes to the Boldr Horween strap - but don't totally neglect the nylon lines; YMMV!

Can't thank you enough for the cool report, as well as update,
and review on all of these Wrascal. :) (y) It's fascinating how
similar straps can end up being so different or might act so
differently. But if anyone can be trusted to gauge how a strap's
quality, as well as durability is, it's you sir. And you know,
I was actually thinking the leather straps wouldn't be nearly as
tough as the nylon straps you have. But the Boldr ended up
winning the tougher survivor award after all, so that's great ! 🏆

Oh, and the $30 shipping cost seems like it was actually worth
it sir !

Quality military nylons would survive long after the leather ones come apart; they just ain't purty.
And they can't be eatin when the going gets tough.

Leather straps (with proper seasonings) are more full-filling.

I've now tried to re-order three additional leather straps from Boldr; I suspect they've read my posts and are no longer updating with a 10% discount.

Yeah, you tell 'em.

I don't have a need for them (other than as spares / and colors to mix/match).

Wrascal, maybe they will hear that you might be considering those
different colors, or may like some spares. And then the discounts
could come at you left, and right. 😉😀

In the past simply sitting on their "incompleted" sales list would draw an offer to close the deal.

It's now been 4,5 maybe 6 days. I may yet purchase them one day but I'm in no hurry.

I like the way you think Wrascal. (y) You are so right, there's no rush.
Enjoy what you have right now right?! Then if something moves you
then go with it. Go with the flow. 😀

Still no word/ no concessions from Boldr - but I do (possible) have some very favorable leather news brewing.
Details will follow if/when things are concluded - perhaps as long as 5 weeks into the future.

If it happens then there will be a big "MOST Positive" review for this strap maker and his (any reason goes) leather straps satisfaction guarantee policy.
