? And then it finally hit me. It was so obvious and right in front of my face. I was in a 30,000 square foot store filled with something he would want – food! Not only would I buy my cookies, I would now also get something for the man outside.

Heading home after a long long day that started at 6am after not sleeping more then 2 hours last night with the baby crying all night like always.

But heading home to pick up Cole from daycare makes EVERYTHING better. I can't wait to pick him up at daycare in a few minutes. Best part of my day, EVERYday.

we are not "RIGHT" with the Universe -and the cosmos is speaking to us

by feeling bad -we are "feeling" what we are supposed to feel - by not doing anything about it and "moving on" we are compensating for our lack of power and becoming
"UNCOMFORTABLY NUMB"

eventually our collective Karma will catch up with us -and we will all FEEL or NOT FEEL

it happened here & elsewhere

KATRINA

the MEGASUNAMI of 2004

these are all signs from the cosmos - we are not right with God "collectively" and until we get right -we will continue to suffer

P.S. -Sorry about the spiritual/religious reference -but your question can only elecit this kind of response from me - either there is a God or there isnt -and my view of things is influenced by my faith

Random bad things happen around the world all of the time and we see them on TV or the internet. And then many people publicly say things like "I feel so bad for them" or "that is so sad" or something to that effect. Why? We don't know these people and probably never will. I am so tired of hearing people use those phrases over and over again on TV and in daily life.

So the question is this - knowing that bad things literally happen every hour of every single day - how can we "feel bad" all of the time for anyone we don't actually know?

If we really "felt bad" about these terrible things going on all around our planet then we would be crushed under a never ending assault of sadness that would ultimately overwhelm us. So how can we honestly feel sadness for anyone else beyond the people closest to us and that we actually know.

Are the words "I feel bad/sad for them" just .... empty words used exclusively to make ourselves feel better and look sympathetic to others who are feeling exactly the same conflict and don't want to appear callus?

I DO NOT ACCEPT THIS RESPONSE FROM YOU CJ!!!

everything is inter-connected, all life, all beings, all tragadies, all joyous moments.

your response SEPERATES US from the events - this is not the way IMHO!!

and i dont believe YOU believe it to be so

The easy answer is there is no one answer. Everyone has a different capacity for caring or as you say "feeling bad".
I don't believe that a person's response to random horrific acts or events is a cross section of that person's ability to care. I think we are built differently and we all have a different ways of dealing with sadness and grief. It would be impossible to care for everyone and everything on a personal or intimate level. You would go crazy. But that does not mean that one cannot legitimately feel grief for a stranger or a circumstance. The recent earthquake, I watched them pull children from a fallen building and it brought tears to my eyes. I had to turn it off; I was not avoiding the issue, I understand and accept what has happened. I cannot watch Holocaust or Hiroshima footage, it's just how I'm wired. I think of it in terms of I care as much as I am capable for random terrible circumstances, then I need to let it go. Some people are wired to care or feel bad only for those that they are familiar with....not unusual at all. And some just don't care at all for anyone. We are all different.

NO BAD things dont happen here!! God forbid - we are all perfect!!

Katrina didnt happen - America is NOT ready to face reality

this is why we suffer

because we would rather rationalize and compensate than face the truth

truth is - we really dont give a damn!!

only we have to save face so we make believe we care!!

TRUTH is this is why we suffer - because we'd rather not deal with the pain
we allow to happen in the world -so we turn our faces and get more busy, and continue on as if nothing has happened.

BUT IT HAS HAPPENED
