I am somewhat new to actual collecting watches and haven't as of yet been letdown and deflated by a watch arriving and not living up to the reputation, hoopla, and fervor associated with it's purchase. I am not saying it will never happen, the odds are that it will.

But for now, I would like to start this counter thread to TVDinner's Letdown thread and proclaim our most satisfying surprise that a watch was, perhaps like...

When I received my Invicta I Force Master Chronograph, my first watch over 47mm. I was astounded. The weight of this massive machine nearly bowled me over. Then there is the awesome style and design of the timepiece. I was so satisfied and proud of this big blue dial watch, I wore this watch as my daily beater for over 8 months straight. Only just replaced, temporarily I think, with a 43mm Pro Diver.

Another was just today, I bought an Invicta Quinotaur Extreme Grand Russian Diver from one of our members and was of course, apprehensive about just what did "Excellent Condition" mean to this seller. It only cost me $75, the watch retails for $590 and sells on ShopNBC for $380 regularly. I received the boxworried thatI may have just wasted $75. I opened the package and removed the contents, hey not bad. I had never held an RD in my hands before. I like, but, examining, hey this thing doesn't have a scratch, mare, bump, or mark on it. I carefully washed it off and re-examined it under my desk lamp with magnification lens.

WOW! THIS WATCH IS BRAND NEW! WHAT A SURPRISE!

What is your unexpected surprise moment or moments?

I have already shared this a number of times today on other threads so I will just say that the arrival of my Accutron left me speechless. That is all.

3 times so far.......

1. Chase Durer Crossfire
2. Chase Durer Strikeforce GMT
3. NFW AutoPilot

I had heard all the hype surrounding these watches and was expecting something nice but was blown away with the quality of these 3 watches for the price. Design, comfort and overall appeal of these three far exceeded my expectations so I was surprised by each. My pics are terrible and do no justice to these watches so I will spare you. I like all my other watches but these three were superior purchases and exceeded expectations.

You know this little hobby does not really get me excited, if I was surprised by a purchase it would have been my first SAN III 7750. But I generally don't get all giddy so too speak!

3 recent times

1) my Triple Black SAN III I said "WOW" out loud when I opened the box

2) My SAS III was a surprise gift from my wife. So I had no idea what was in the box when I got it. I was speechless the first time I looked at the massive size and held the heavy watch. I literally just held it and looked at all of the details the first time I had it in my hands.

3) the final time might surprise you, but when i got my all Silver Scuba I was literally blown away by the bracelet size and sheer feel of the watch. That day I felt I had gotten a mini Venom. It is that impressive in sheer look when you have it.

It doesn't have to be "giddy" even it it only caused a raised eyebrow, that mayrepresent an unexpected surprise.

I may have to end up with one of these myself.

Then there are two watches that I have owned that have been better then I paid for.

#1 SAS hands down worth the $ I spent
#2 The San III any of them

Just happened to me this morning. Until now my Copper Dial CD Crossfire was my biggest WOW moment followed closely by the Limited Edition Conquest.. But today I received a double dose. With all of the recent posting pro and con the Invicta Bolt I held the order open for my anniversary Bolt in Blue/Gold with Champagne MOP MY GOD this thing is overwhelmingly beautiful this timepiece goes beyond the usual story of the watch not being represented fairly in photo or video.. The OTV Blue/gold Bolt is so very dis-represented that when I first opened the bow it physically took my breath away.. I have no picture to show since others, better than I have tried and failed I would be at best a weak attempt..By the way, TV Dinner, I hardly notice the rope thing and the watch has such a striking and commanding presence that the oversized winders don't even look large, - no argument or slight intended. atill can't believe my eyes

Hands down, it would be my Rose/Black IP SAIII 7750, followed closely by my SS SAIII 7751.

Prior to these 2 timepieces, it had been my Invicta Admiral COSC. For under $250, I was able to get a "much loved and care for" preowned model that had been my most accurate mechanical automatic watch from Invicta.

I've been lucky in that I have not been let down by a watch I've bought online or by mailyet. I would say that the most satisfying surprise I've had would probably be my Orient CFA05002B. I bought it because I wanted a GMT/world-time type watch and had a 50% off code from Orient. The quality of the watch surpassed my expectations by quite a wide margin.

Another one would probably be my most recent purchase, a Seiko Ananta Spring Drive GMT. The surprise here is that I was completely satisfied with the purchase despite the huge price tag. I knew it was a great watch but I didn't expect to instantly love it as much as I do.

Yea, I had this happen 3 times to me too. All 3 were MUCH better than I had expected and I loved them all but when you're going for a grail, some have to be sold!

1) Invicta SANIII

2) Invicta SAS

3) Jacques Lemans Geneve collection automatic diver

The only one I have left now though is the JL Diver.
