It is actually a fascinating thing watching the patina trend, or craze grab
hold in recent years right True?! 👀😮

In the beginning, had thought it was just neat seeing the different ways
the aging affected watches. Almost creating new natural special editions,
or something. But now I see, at least with more expensive watches, that
it's evidently really adding to the price of vintage watches. Which is odd,
because as they were saying in the article, patina is seemingly another
word for damage. 😊

But, at the same time, have to admit, this damage is 'honestly' often
pretty cool ! 😄And I guess that's why so many brands, like HVD will
often add their own take on patina into the fold right?! ..It's really very
interesting sir. Thanks so much for finding this, as well as posting !!!

I hope this doesn't go so far as what happened with "reliced guitars" where people were purposely beating up / taking a sanding block and angle-grinder to brand new guitars so they look "old and worn in", and trying to charge a small fortune for them....

To me, "Patina" is just an interchangeable word for "Damaged"...

I’m kinda against the relic guitar trend. I’ve managed to relic a few on my own over the last 50 years or so. I don’t mind the looks but paying a premium to have someone beat up your guitar for you seems pointless.

I'll pipe in on the relic guitar thing. I know a little about guitars, not much about watches though. For better or worse, relic guitars came about from 'custom shop' builds and were (are?) better than most. But, it's a gimmick. Who the heck wants a worn out looking guitar (watch) new? It's an absurd proposition to collectors, not users.
I've relic'ed a few guitars and bought many used guitars with patina.
Buy patina, not relic. jmho. ymmv.
