Hi Watch Freeks! I'd like to introduce myself and the watch project I have been working on.

My name is Michael. I'm a South African now living in Auckland, New Zealand. About 18 months ago I bought my first automatic watch. From that moment I became obsessed with mechanical watches, but in particular with watch design. I engrossed myself with watch design and kept a close eye on all the other microbrands out there.

I started work on the brand called Draken. It's inspired by the Drakensberg mountains in South Africa, but it also means Dragon in Dutch and some Scandinavian countries. I spent a lot of time developing the brand and thinking about the design choices I would make going forward.

The focus of Draken is to make tough, functional tool watches. I wanted to make more than just another homage - something unique and original but also true to the nature of traditional watches.

My first watch is the Tugela, a rugged tool dive watch, made for the outdoors. The case is completely unique and something I am very proud of. It has tapered sides, so it's actually quite hard to measure the diameter, but it's 42mm at the bezel and 39mm at the base.

Some of the specs are as follows:

316L stainless steel, bead blasted

Sapphire crystal with inner AR coating

120 click unidirectional bezel with 3 color options - black, red and blue.

C3 lumed hands and dial

Nh35a, with custom lumed date wheel

Italian leather strap with quick release pins

300m water resistance.

I have been testing out 3 prototypes and am awaiting 3 more which will hopefully be perfect - fingers crossed!

I plan on launching the watch on Kickstarter later this year, and I would love your support! Price is yet to be confirmed, but I'll be looking at an earlybird price of $250.

Please feel free to drop me a line or ask any questions.

Cheers

Mike

Wow that is an awesome design. I really like it.

Best of luck with it I hope you get it moving.

If indeed you're looking at approx. 250$ given the watch specs I think it's a good deal.

Not very informed on that movement but everything looks and sounds good overall.
