The 'KINO' Cinema Watch from Atelier Morpheus. Swiss made 45mm (10.4mm thick) stainless steel automatic (ETA 2824-2), with sweep second hand, non-glare sapphire crystal, superluminova hands, screw down crown and back, WR 5atm, hand assembled. We use the Atelier Morpheus label for our Swiss made automatic timepieces.

The unique design features include a two-piece dial in the template of a wound film reel, a crown in the rough form of a projector lens, and the silicone strap, molded with the texture of a 35mm film strip. CINEMA, in classic deco font, is etched on the side, opposite the crown. Limited Edition and individually numbered to just 150 pieces in this color and configuration.

As big film buffs, this concept was one we were eager to pursue. The initial design element was the film reel, and then we added to the theme from there. The hand applied deco fonts and the black & white color tone add to a 1930's feel, the gold age of film, to many historians and critics. The custom molded strap almost looks as though it is moving through the watch case.

'Kino' signifies cinema in German and Russian. The films of both of those countries were critical in the development of early twentieth century film.

The images below start with a CG image that was an early iteration. The clapper-like hands may be incorporated into a later version.

Our Cinema watch ambassador is the artist Jota Leal (
