My Son graduated mining engineering. I wish to give him a watch.

His criteria are leather strap, simple face with gold or silver accents. He prefers a clean uncluttered look.

My criteria are about $500, not battery operated but an automatic movement. Looking for good value!

Thanks

The Panzera and Boschett have the look he wants but both are very large. His wrist is not large. The Seiko Sumo and leather is what I like, however he seems to want a 'dinner style' watch.
So it needs to be a bit smaller but the look of Panzera and Boschett Legacy. Does such exist?
Thanks for the help!

Hamilton Men's H32715551 Jazzmaster Viewmatic Silver Dial Watch

just do a search for "Hamilton automatic" and you should find several in your price range. Nice dinner watch from a company with a long history. The one above might be bigger than your looking for. All reviews for it are 5 star. Just looked at another that was just over 400, all reviews are 5 star. Just a fast count there are 7 simple silver dialed watches from Hamilton for you to choose from. Probably more. Happy shopping.

Went with the Tissot Visodate, thanks a lot guys.
Will get a crocodile leather strap as well, width is not given on the Tissot site so I will have to wait until it arrives to measure it.

Seems to be a very cool retro 'hipster' thing to wear. Not sure what a hipster is but my son mentions them. Modern day hippie perhaps?

In one picture of the Tissot I saw a red '1' in front of MON, just wondering why it's there? First day of the week? The pictures with SAT in view have no red number.
I had a Tissot automatic, a PRC200, it had day/date, and the number before the day was to indicate what number of the days it was during the week????

While setting the date you could cycle through and it would come up with the day display only, and no numbers before it.

Case is 40mm wide and about 12mm thick, it will wear very comfortably, nice pick up. The Visodate is one of the classiest looking, yet cool dress watches out there.

They look even cooler on a mesh bracelet.

Mesh Strap

Another great suggestion. Yes it is very smart looking. He can add that in the future.
After hours of watch searching its odd how few watches are simple designs now.
The Seiko spring drive (not in my budget) is a staggering price of design but the watch designs are very sad. Rolex would kill for such a movement!
Today is the day the world adds a second to all its clocks. Not having a spring drive I won't worry!

If he is looking for a dress type watch for work I like spaces suggestion of the Raymond Weil or a Hamilton jazzmaster. Caution against gold unless it's just on the dial or hands. Any gold accents on the outside could chip or rub off. Anything in this price range will be gold plated. I've gone that route and it gets ugly fast.

Definitely check joma out lots to choose from for Hamilton and raymond weil. If you don't like the day of the week at the top there are some without it. Also one with gold hands if that is what he is looking for.
