Normally I would privately tell someone at the establishment. In this day and age and everyone having a gun or some weapon I would not try to stop the person myself. Just not worth the risk.
Well if i succeed in what i am trying to do (joining the police force) Obviously if on duty then i have to intervene... but if i was off duty i would simply tell a member of staff or security guard, its not worth trying to be a hero
most stores have cameras and security tags are hidden in the items.I wouldn't go out of my way to report them unless an employee was near enough to mention it to.The store can't do a thing until the thief exits the building.
I have done this. I saw a guy at the local mom and pop grocery store stuff some things in his shirt as I was walking by. He looked at me and continued stuffing his shirt, so I told one of the checkers I know and she confronted him. I know the store owner, grew up next door to them.
My daughter called Macy's security while working and they 'arrested' a pair of female shoplifters. My daughter was stalked and threatened and had to get a restraining order until the thieves were finally jailed.
I worked in retail management for too long...I would go inform store security. Shoplifting costs American business BILLIONS of dollars a year. Which means prices at stores go up...so think about it....the thief stealing from a store is making you pay more for the things you buy!!!
