If you saw someone swipe something, would you turn them in or mind your own business ?

Normally I would privately tell someone at the establishment. In this day and age and everyone having a gun or some weapon I would not try to stop the person myself. Just not worth the risk.

I would mind my own business unless I knew the business owner and in that case I would tell them what I saw. I would not intervene.

Well if i succeed in what i am trying to do (joining the police force) Obviously if on duty then i have to intervene... but if i was off duty i would simply tell a member of staff or security guard, its not worth trying to be a hero

most stores have cameras and security tags are hidden in the items.I wouldn't go out of my way to report them unless an employee was near enough to mention it to.The store can't do a thing until the thief exits the building.

Not my business really. I used to work loss prevention in my early college days so it is not worth it to expose yourself to that unnecessary risk.

I have done this. I saw a guy at the local mom and pop grocery store stuff some things in his shirt as I was walking by. He looked at me and continued stuffing his shirt, so I told one of the checkers I know and she confronted him. I know the store owner, grew up next door to them.

If I personally knew the store owner, YES.

If not, MYOB

My daughter called Macy's security while working and they 'arrested' a pair of female shoplifters. My daughter was stalked and threatened and had to get a restraining order until the thieves were finally jailed.

it is not a theft until the person has left the store it is a job for security.
imported post

I would no sooner stop a shoplifter than I would stop a store owner putting the boot to a shoplifter.

I worked in retail management for too long...I would go inform store security. Shoplifting costs American business BILLIONS of dollars a year. Which means prices at stores go up...so think about it....the thief stealing from a store is making you pay more for the things you buy!!!

I would tell tell an employee and let them take care of it.
