ok my fellow freeks...another dilemma....Wifey suggested I go with the Rolex deep sea...I eliminated the zenith and going back and forth with the panerai and the deep sea now..of course the deep sea will be purchased a little longer then the panerai due to me buying a new suv shortly...but here is a cool pic of it...So lets see what happens..

Tough call. You know my opinion. Between the Z and the P, my choice was P by a mile.

But now between R and P it is a little harder for me.

How large is the R. I can not find any size info on any of the sites.

I know its a hard call James....43.5mm on the rolie and the panny is 44mm...not much difference..they both wear much bigger James...The rollie is 17.5mm deep very close to the breitling SA and has plenty of weight...the watch is awesome...the panny is awesome also...it all comes down to what is going to be worth more in the future with me...and I think the rolie will have more value...just cant believe the wifey is telling me to get the rolie...lol..:b

ok i might get yelled at for saying this, but in my opinion there is almost no question that the R will have more future retained value. You know I LOVE some of the P models, BUT I do feel that P is somewhat of a fad brand. It is unquestionably the trendy luxury brand of the past few years with big exposure in movies and popular shows like Entourage. They are absolutely a legit "luxury" brand, but I am not sure about the long long term retained value, especially when compared directly to the R brand which has decades of proven value that goes up in most cases.

Do you agree?

Yes I totally agree and thats what has been on my mind..Lets face it james when your spending that much coin you always want to make sure you are purchasing something that will retain value..now Im not saying i buy watches only because of the value but i think when your spending that type of money it should hold some value..I know the rolies always hold value and never drop. The panny im not too sure of yet and hoping its not a fad type of watch because i truly love the brand. ....man this crap keeps getting worse...lol...wife had to get involved...man o man...

I looked at this watch today. Full gloved service from the AD who was showing me the watch. I tried it on and looked it over from all angles. Here are my thoughts.

As mentioned by others this watch DOES wear larger then the size advertised - feels like a 46mm watch. The 15mm thick seems larger also. The watch case, dial, and overall styling OF THE CASE as a whole is STUNNING. Screams of high class and expensive Swiss watch, which it is.

BUT I don't care if this watch cost $10,000 (like it currently does) OR $10 or 10 CENTS - the bracelet completely ruins this watch for me. I have never seen any bracelet on any watch taper down like this one does. It drops to 16mm at the clasp and feels even smaller when you have it on. The bracelet almost feels like the bracelet that would be on a woman's watch.

I love Rolex. I would like to buy their little brother Tudor. Unfortunately they aren't available in the USA. I know you can get them in Canada.

The DSSD is definitely a top quality watch! But as others have stated, it is a BIG watch and the tapered bracelet does make it top-heavy. I have tried to love this watch, but find it way too big to be practical. If I am going to spend that amount of money for a watch, it better be able to be worn in almost every situation! The DSSD cannot be worn with a suit, heck...my 42mm PO cannot be worn with a suit.

I prefer the older model (Sea Dweller), GMT Master II and the LV Sub over the DSSD. They are all a size/style that can be worn in every situation (suit to jeans) and the quality is there. Even the tapered bracelet is OK with those models...the clasp is awesome too!

On the Tudor side, there are many models that they build that are a great size too...I can't wait until my Tudor Heritage Chrono arrives!!

DSSD is my newest Rolex. Have owned it for almost a year now and am quite pleased with it. Serendipitously, I've managed to obtain a perfect fit, so the tapered bracelet/top heavy issue has not manifested as a problem. It is pretty "chunky" in case height for its diameter, but manages to pull it off without looking ungainly. Although I'm not a diver, I bought it for its uncompromising "tool watch" aspect and historical DNA. A very nice tool indeed!

I have had a DSSD for a couple of years now. The tapered bracelet was a consideration after reading so much negative about it. I decided to risk it under the belief that it wouldn't be hard to sell if I didn't like it. As Wotan has stated the bracelet isn't a factor. Sometimes when on holidays I will take the DSSD as my only watch. The watch fits great and if it is a particularly hot day you can quickly and easily make it a little bigger with the micro adjust clasp. I think you will find if you like a watch with some substance to it, wear this watch for a day and you will be a believer. Nice piece, wouldn't hesitate to recomend it.
