Finally pulled the trigger on a M74 Phantom Lum Tec. I love the watch, but have a few basic questions. The phantom look is phenomenal, but seems to be really prohibitive on the lum. On the standard sapphire watches is it necessary to "charge" it, or is wearing it throughout the day enough to get the lum going? If I hold a flash light on it for 15-30 seconds it's great, but never glows otherwise.

Second, I ALWAYS have had steel bracelet watches, do I need to be wary of the leather when washing my hands, etc? If I'm concerned about it getting wet just swap to the rubber band?

Thanks! I know these questions seem obvious lol, but I want my watch to last, and am curious if the lum on the non phantom takes charging.

You will need to expose the lume to a light source. If you wear it outside and go inside that should be enough, or you can use any light source to "charge" the lume. If you want to get lume without a light source you need to get H3 (tritium) tubes. You can find them on many watches, but BALL makes the best IMO.

Black Lume such as yours will glow when you charge it, but it will not absorb light as easily as a regular green/white paint Lumtec model. Its just the nature of that Lume paint, it glows the worst of all the colors.

As far as the leather band, leather is leather. washing your hands is fine, but don't wash dishes with it if you want to keep it looking decent over the years.

That was my question, so if I would have went with the m72 and just go from outside to inside, the natural light would have been enough to charge it? So I wouldn't have to put light on it directly as I do with the phantom?

I don't mind it "needing to charge" as I didn't find any tritium watches in my price range that I liked, but I'd rather not have to put light directly on it, I'd rather it just glow as I go about my day, if that makes any sense?
