One of my boss' recent projects is a "lifestyle" community...That's just another name for over 55 or retirement community...These people don't sit around & knit or bake cookies, this age group is as active as I am, they hike, play tennis, go to the gym, etc...My parents are in their 60's & I can never reach them 'cuz they are traveling or off somewhere just enjoying life, what they don't do is sit around...When did old stop being old ?

As a qualified expert on this subject, it's the body, not the mind that gets old first. As most people in their 60's say they think young, it is just sometimes the body thinks old.

I would hate for anyone to get the mistaken impression that I think people in their 50's, 60's or even 70's are old because that's just not the case at all...Just sayin'...

I think you are as old as you feel/act. With two college kids I can feel old sometimes. But if you are active and enjoying life there is no reason today to 'act' your age.

Well Duchess, being the ripe age of 61 now I can tell you that there is no way I feel that way mentally. Physically? I definately cannot do many of the things that I did even ten years ago, butI still do go to the gym 5 times a week and work out with guys 20, 30 & 40 years younger than me and I still can hold my own with them. I don't feel 61 (whatever that's supposed to feel like) and I still think like a kid, LOL.

The thing thatI truly miss about being younger is playing baseball. Not softball, but baseball. Played until I was 48 years old. Tore my rotator and hung it up. That is one thing that I would love to still have the physical ability to do and can't. THAT.................. is when I really know how old I am!

I'm 45 and it does NOT feel as old as it sounded when I was 25...

THE BODY DEFINITELY DETERIORATES BEFORE THE MIND. AT LEAST THATS WHAT MY SON OF 50 TELLS ME.

My dad is almost 80...and despite his mental problems...my mom says he is fine physically most of the time. You would never know my mom will be 77 this year. She is extremely active...walks for 45 mins a day, does all the yard work, and is still making a living as a professional seamstress and tailor. I have brothers that are still extremely active....I am the only one all beat up!!! Playing football left me rather beat up and immobile for 52 years old. But..if I had it to do all over again...I'd still do it the same way. I'd make sure that I'd have missed my block on that one play....so my leg wouldn't get all messed up!! LOL
