Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To some they appeal, to others they don’t but it’s all a matter of personal taste. I do not find the subject controversial at all. I don’t like Richard Mille’s offerings very much (to say the least) but that’s just my opinion. And I have a feeling that the people that are able to afford them just buy them for that reason: “look at me, I wear a million dollar watch”.

To each their own way. Sure, some are better looking than others, but every brand is like that.
I see them as a purpose built watch for the most part. They're hard to damage when wearing.
There is a big difference between a Square & a Mudmaster or a Rangeman.
I have over 20 of them. Vast majority are very affordable.
They're just not for you!

I own two... one as my work-out / working outside watch, the other as a SHTF watch (which, thanks to what is happening, seems more real than ever these days).

And since I cannot in good conscience wear a Vostok, I am mister G-Shock...

It’s actually a really fantastic topic Wrascal. 😀 Thanks so very
much for coming up with it !!!

I think it’s definitely a beauty is in the eye of the beholder thing,
or to each their own as Frans, and Roarry pointed out. 🙂 And
they can take basically anything one can throw at them as the
guys said, and are fantastic when working around outside like
FB said. 🙂 And when members have a bunch of them like
Roarry, Hector, and RT, you know they must be impressive. (y)

In a cool way, they kind of meet your criteria for durable, and
cheap watches Wrascal. And there are a ton of G-Shocks too.
There has to be something that just could change your mind. 😉
And don’t forget, they not only have the big, and bold, but
also more subdued, and classic. And even solar models also.

Just a few different ones sir...

There are a bunch of solar powered watches too like these:

This one’s under $30.00...

You also have non G-Shock Casios too don’t forget sir.

Another solar...

Wave Ceptor...

A couple links too...

I have always wanted to get a G-Shock but never got around to obtaining one. I think I am waiting to receive one as a birthday gift from someone I know that does not have to break their bank to buy me a watch I can appreciate

is there anything more Ugly than the G-Shock series?
While some are worse than others I've NEVER seen one that visually appeals to me.

Mods- please delete if this is just too controversial.

I am with you 100%. G-Shocks are\all about inverted snobbery. I appreciate they may well be reasonably engineered, but so is a mobile phone. They are vile pieces of resin that should be put to death at birth

There’s a creative, artistic component that you completely miss. That’s OK, but be aware your limitations are the problem, not G-Shock watches.

I stick by it. They serve a purpose, but nobody can pretend they are attractive, and owning attractive watches is all part of the hobby. G-Shocks are all about inverted snobbery. Invicta make some disgusting over sized watches that constantly get condemned by WIS's, but somehow G-Shocks don't. Explain that?

It’s a shame people see the world through such a profound filter that they don’t realize they’re the one who’s different. But to refuse to see it and then rationalize and project by bashing others is disturbing.

I don’t care if people want to torture themselves, but I highly recommend looking up the word paradigm and writing down the ways you may need a shift. It’s a healthy exercise for even the most enlightened and open-minded.

Good luck.
