Guys, need your advice. I was selling a watch and a buyer from Germany wants it. I have never sold out of CONUS before, but he wants to pay paypal plus shipping to germany.

If he pays by paypal and I get the money, Im safe, no? Im just not sure what or how to handle this...

I beleive the customs is payable by the BUYER (German Side)

i've never sold anything Overseas but i did Gift one to Dane

he had to pay customs fees on the declared amount

Make sure it's paypal CASH - i had an issue once where they tried using an e-check and it took 2 weeks for paypal to credit me CLEARED FUNDS

i didnt ship until they cleared but it was a hassle

HE PAYS THE FEES (if any). That is not your problem

Once you get the money you are safe.

Call PayPal and ask them directly. I call PayPal all the time with questions. They have customer service reps.

Selling overseas really isn't any different then selling locally. The only thing you have to e sure of is to ship to the buyers verified shipping address. You also have to make sure that after receiving the funds Paypal has ok'd shipping. Once his has happened you just need to have an extra label for the post office when dropping it off.

I've done many overseas transactions. I actually just shipped some vintage bowls to Japan this morning.

Also, check your shipping costs....they will be much higher then you are used to if you ship CONUS. Priority mails can triple in cost to international cities.

Everything is done right within Paypal. You receive your payment and create the actual shipping label, via wizard, right through them. You will pay exactly what you are suppose to pay.

Once again, your only caution is to ship to a verified address!

ABSOLUTELY SEND IT VIA AN INSURED AND TRACEABLE METHOD!!!!

I can't stress this enough!!!

I have sold dozen of watches overseas and the ONLY issue was when I allowed the buyer to talk me into shipping the watch (an ORIS TT1) via USPS Global Priority Mail which is NOT a trackable/traceable method. If you use the Post Office, send it via USPS Global Express Mail. Otherwise I would use FedEx or UPS!

Eric - if they pay by PayPal then follow everyone's instructions in this thread exactly. Follow PayPal's instructions EXACTLY and ship through Pay Pal to a verified address and you are covered and safe.

YOU ARE THE SELLER and set the terms of sale. Period. MAKE the buyer follow your rules. Not the other way around.

i get that, Im just sayin that if i use USPS Express Internnational it seems to cover all bases such as trackability, etc. Thx
The only problem you could encounter there is the astronomical price for shipping. Most international buyers want the cheapest rate for shipping. Priority Insured is fine. I always use priority and there is never a problem! Express is not the only trackable mail.

Unless the buyer wants to pay for express you could do yourself out of a sale. Express is unnecessary.

Again . . . I caution using USPS Global Priority Mail, Insured.

Yes, I used it dozens of times and it worked great . . . until a package went missing. The US Postal Service refused to track the page in Spain. They deferred to the Spanish PO, and it conveniently was never found.

I had a tracking number which clearly showed that the item was signed for, but the buyer never received it (it was my 3rd watch to him, so I trusted him).

YES . . . Global Priority Mail works just fine . . . until it's lost . . . then you are screwed.

Fair Warning!

BTW: After the US PO refused to help in the matter, Paypal.com ruled against me. I lost the $600 that I was sent as payment, plus I lost an Oris TT1.

BUt thats where USPS Express Mail International would be better, no?
IMHO, YES . . . even though it's expensive as hell. I state in my eBay auctions that an International buyer MUST pay for a shipping method in which I WILL NOT GET EFFIN SCREWED! :madd

To be honest . . . in most cases, I won't ship overseas anymore. I've probably sold 100 watches or more (in the past 10+ years on eBay) to overseas buyers, and only had the problems begin last summer.
