Has anyone heard about this by chance?

Looks like this cool new atomic clock will be launching into space soon
Which will change space navigation to not only Mars, but into deep space.

The NASA Deep Space Atomic Clock will be, or is the most accurate
timing instrument ever made, and uses mercury-ion trap technology.
Having been developed over 20 years at the NASA Jet Propulsion
Laboratory in Pasadena guys.

June 22 is when the launch takes place, and it will even be live
streamed. Beginning a year long testing as it orbits the Earth.

A few details of the many details about the Deep Space Atomic
Clock include that it will lose just 1 second over 9 million years,
will help spacecraft navigate, keeps time using mercury ions, and
works similar to GPS. It's set to launch on a SpaceX Falcon heavy
Rocket too everyone.

A few pictures for you...

Thanks for the article Tom. It shows how incredible clever some people are. Mercury ions as a means to calculate the passing of time is perhaps the next step in the evolution of the atomic clock but the thinking and math behind it is mind boggling to me.

NASA Clock

Thanks for posting Tom!

This is pretty cool indeed. I've been a bit of a space buff since I was a kid.

Atomic Tom:
How utterly Moxey and cool!!!
And I thot WWV Atomic Clock. at Ft Collins Colo wuz the cat's meow???
What wont the big brain, brainiacs develop next?

So Celsium 33 atomics are gonna be old news? Who would'a thunk it?

I'm so low Tech. Kinda makes me wonder how I got hundreds of coal
trains to and from the Lower Colo River power plant at Bastrop, Texas

Luck?

I am absolutely amazed but I can not even begin to understand how this technology works. I doff my hat to the very clever people behind this. Outstanding, many thanks for the share Tom...

Have no idea about anything that I typed actually. :bounce:

But sure is pretty remarkable, and inspiring honestly. Might be cool to check
this live stream out, and see how it goes. Should actually be out of this world ! :)

So happy that you guys enjoyed so much, and Happy Birthday ahead of time
to you there Howard !!! :clap2:

Amazing. The stability of “time” across all conceivable platforms is critical to our advancement as a species. This is just awesome.
