I always wanted a moon phase watch and found this Sothis Quantieme Spirit of Moon in a watch magazine back in 2005, I found the Moon phase quite unusual and I had to have it. I had to settle for a silver dial, but I really wanted the black dial but Watchbuys told me that they sold out of the black dial and would no longer be able to get any more in, plus they only had three silver dials left and once they were gone they were gone and they would no longer be getting any more in with silver or black dials. So I purchased the watch and still enjoy it, plus has become a good conversation piece with my coworkers.

Thank you for showing this watch to us. I didn't know anything about the brand. Now I'm exploring it for myself. There chronographs are interesting because they have the complicated nature of a chronograph with everything going on, yet they still somehow manage to attain that quintessential German understated reserve. Very cool watches

Could be an East German watch. Oddly appealing however

Yeah this is what happens when you take it to a watch repair shop that are incompetent. Five years after owning the watch the crown came out so I took it to a local watch repair. They fixed the problem with the crown but since the blued hands started to oxidize.

Hi tomsimac, sorry for my ignorance but what can the oxidation be attributed to ? I have a JLC with a blued second hand and it is kept in the same location. I have heard that there are a couple ways that blued hands are made, could it be that one is perfected better then the other, environmental conditions, fault in the watch or design. I thought it might be that moisture got inside the dial but the only time I think this could have happened was when I took it to the repair shop.

Here is some history on Sothis watches

• Sothis was founded in 1990 by Wolfgang & Karina Steinkrüger.
• The company bought its movements and hands in Switzerland from established suppliers while all other parts and the assembling were made in Germany.
• In 1998 the Sothis watch “Spirit of the moon” won a prize in the “Goldene Unruh” competition in Basel, the most prestigious award in the watch industry.
• Unfortunately, Wolfgang Steinkrüger during 2010 was attainted by a serious illness and passed away in March 2012.
• Sothis Ltd. acquired the assets of the company in December 2012.
• The new owners, some of them with a huge background in the global luxury watches industry, modified the successful products of the original range. They added a new company philosophy, transfered the production to switzerland and will re-launch the brand in July 2013.
