The Morpheus M1A2 Watch has just been released as part of our Temps Militaire line. The watch case is 46mm (crown excluded) by about 13.2mm high. The M1A2 tank watch features a Swiss made Ronda GMT movement, with an industrial-looking curved display. The non-reflective sapphire crystal is very thick, fitting the robust theme of the watch. Top down, the walls of the case are unusually thick, like the armor of a tank. The watches have a screw down crown for water resistance of at least 5ATM.

There are three versions. One with black case and desert themed dial, and two with camo dials in stainless and 18k gold plate.

The case itself, with the shape of the protector, is patterned after a generic commander’s cupola or hatch. The dial features a number of cues from the M1A2 Abrams. The mesh on the lower part of the dial captures the supply basket behind the turret. Etchings on the dial are in the same pattern as similar forms on the turret, and the date window surround is based on the .50 cal machine gun crescent mount. The Crown is designed after an AFV road wheel, while the rubber strap has a tank-like tread look. The numbers are in the same font as appears on the M1A2 tanks and the ‘V’ is a common unit insignia.

Each watch is individually numbered on the back, in a limited edition. We plan on releasing other tank-based designs in the future.

The design evolution took quite some time, and that was a good thing (it usually is!). Our initial concept had the case in the shape of the actual tank turret, making it appear rather toy-like. When we finally decided to do a round case, the elements fit together in a much more integral fashion. We think the watch aestheticconveys the power and fortress-like robustness of a tank. Despite it's mass (5.1 ounces), the M1A2 watch is quite comfortable with the soft silicon rubber strap.

Hi, Ted

We will likely submit for reviews. We had initially considered a Miyota automatic for both the 1911 and M1A2 watches, but they were very hard to get at the time, due to the effects of the Tsunami. We really like the look of the Ronda GMT window on the M1A2, as it has a kind of heavy machinery read-out feel to it. Also, the quartz movements allow a bit more flexibility in pricing. We may do something with an automatic in the same general theme in the future.
