Mont blanc watch in pawnshop, is it real?

8451 Views 43 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  scotty
I put a watch on layaway at my local pawnshop today. The pawnshop says it's authentic but won't let me take it out and have it checked before I buy it. I have looked for a similar watch made by mont blanc online and have not been able too. Does anyone know or has anyone seen this watch before? Any idea if it is real?

The biggest thing is, the store won't guarantee it as real/original.
That's not good.
The one store I go to, that buys watches, will give you a certificate of authenticity for any watch they sell.
That's the thing...they had to have taken it in as a pawn or bought it from someone. So they know that it is not real or are real dumb...sounds super shady and I would not buy anything from that shop!

Do they know if it is stolen? Probably not...

Naturally the pawn shop is going to claim it's authentic and I'm sure those people are trustworthy, qualified experts. Get your $20 back if you can and don't drop another penny on that watch.

LOL. Interesting commentary here.

If the great guys at the pawn shop I go to tell me something is authentic, I believe them. And I know that if a mistake was made they would stand behind it. And that has nothing to do with the fact that pawn brokers are some of the most heavily regulated sellers in the US.
I thought all Montblanc are swiss made and would say so on the dial???

Bracelet looks cheap and like someone said the tourbillion window ie open heart thing going on makes it look really fake
Laughable fake.

So the watch in question is genuine?

I fell for it again. The "is it real?" question. My age is turning me into a gullible sap :D

If you can make your own decision then why are you asking us? The watch isn't even worth the 20 bucks you put on deposit. You screwed up so just buy it now and start another thread about your sorrow.

Btw. I'm not asking if I should make the purchase or not. I can make my own decision to pass on it or not based on the price and my research. I am looking for info on the watch not weather I should buy it or not

Besides, Montblanc doesn't make an open heart that I'm aware of but they do make a Tourbillon, ExoTourbillon they call it.
And that's no Tourbillon.

NO PAPERWORK DON"T BUY IT.
Unless an AD confirms it authentic and that probably wont happen - DON'T BUY IT.

This should be the end of the discussion right, lol
I quote myself (lol)

How is this discussion still going???

Asked and answered over and over again.

No proof it is real you should NOT buy it. That simple. No additional thought needed. You asked. Everyone answered. Don't risk it. Don't buy it. Run the heck away...fast.

As others have stated, fake. I found several replica sites selling this pos for under $400

The faux tourbillion window is a tell-tale sign among other details. $20, tops. Drop it like a hot potato.
Is that a faux tourbillion or just an open heart?

Of course, not knowing the Mont Blanc line AT ALL, I have absolutely no idea.
I'd be suspicious though especially if the guy won't allow you to verify.
So the watch in question is genuine?
How in hell would I know? LOL. I'm saying that if I bought a watch, or anything else at MY local Pawn Shop, walked it to someone for a professional authentication/appraisal and it came back as a verifiable fake, they wouldn't leave me hanging. The comments about pawn brokers being either crooked or stupid are subjective and stereotypical. And to be perfectly honest, I take offense on behalf of the very honest and very decent people I buy from. YMMV.

In fact, I have a couple of grand worth of VERY authentic Swiss hardware in my collection right now. All bought in my favorite Pawn Shop.
Hey OP, the concensus is that it is a FAKE! I'm sorry but I have never handled a Mont Blanc before and just from the pics you provided even I could tell its fake. Don't go looking for gold at the bottom of a dung heap. Maybe watches aren't your forte.

Wow! I'm glad you are confident about your local pawn shop. I've not been in one in 25 yrs, but here in my neck of the woods one must keep his wallet in his front pocket while visiting one. Not a good scene in Toronto pawns.
If real it's most likely stolen. Value items would be reclaimed by honest people, hence pawned. Buying expensive watches in a pawn shop is similar to
What?

If fake, stolen.... I would not want I, not if it belonged to a junkie pimp.
Buy some socks at JC Penny and get some real comfort cheap

It's a typical cheap Chinese fake. There are 5 different manufacturers I know using watches with that exact configuration. Subdials are day and month. Date window at 12. Winner (cheap Chinese watches) uses that exact dial, even. And yes, that's a fake tourbillion. Avoid it if possible.
I was faced with a similar dillema.
Pawn shop had a scrumptious looking Bell & Ross for cheep.
I offered to make a deposit to have it examined by my watch guy.
Shop sez "No way"!!! After I lost that B&R possibility I........
