Lanzarote (Canary Islands) vacation

This destination was new to both me and my girlfriend and we were lucky to get the package just in time and at a low price. It's an average 4.25 hour flight from Schiphol Airport to Arrecife, the main city on the island and after that a bus transfer of close to 50 minutes because the bus stops at all major hotels and resorts in Puerto del Carmen (our final destination). We stayed for a week and returned yesterday.

Our simple all-inclusive apartment hotel was a bit dated but clean and our apartment was roomy for the money. We didn't use the kitchen or appliances because of the all-inclusive package. And we went out for dinner and drinks a couple of times.

As soon as the pool bar opened at 10.30, the first guests started ordering drinks :) Let us say, all of the guests from a nation that recently left the EU and boy can they drink!

Lanzarote is part of Spain so they use the Euro and prices in bars and restaurants are more than reasonable, it is as if inflation passed them by. EUR 2 for a pint of lager and 6.50 for a (heavy spiked) cocktail. This is because of fierce competition and a full English (or Irish) breakfast will set you back between EUR 2.50 and 5 and two coffee (Americano and cappuccino) is 3.60 (that's one plain coffee where I live!). There are plenty of Irish pubs with live music from 22.00 and much to my surprise a lot of Chinese restaurants.

We plan to go again in October because we liked it so much. Temperature is 26C in the shade, almost no rain during the year and a mild breeze 24/7. Below some impressions:

Nice photographs.

We visited in 2015. The island is quite barren and has an interesting landscape, some of which was formed by volcanic activity some centuries ago

Yeah, wow, beautiful Frans, I can see why you are planning on going back. ;)
But I want to thank you for always making it feel like we are there doing
these terrific things right along side you !!! (y):giggle: I swear it feels like I can
almost feel what it is like here, as well as all of the different places you will
visit. Or even there where you live. ..I just love it, and for many of us that
don't get to travel or visit such amazing places, it's a sheer joy to have
you share so much with us. Thanks so very much once again !!! :)🏆🥇
To tell the truth, the place looks like a dream from what I am seeing.

Oh and I can imagine that the days just flew by as well. Because you literally
are having so much fun right?! ..That's why you need to go back and be able
to enjoy things again. Because there's no doubt you can't take in and enjoy
everything in one trip. In fact, I could see you both going back multiple times
per year. :D What a beautiful place sir, or rather paradise !

Beautiful pics, they remind me of something from my recent past.
This old curmudgeon has quit flying, I don't wish to be bothered with it (airports, security, connections, baggage, passport, etc) anymore, BUT ...

my widowed older daughter got remarried last summer, in Jamicka. Reluctantly I renewed my passport and off we (mom and I) went - to a similar beautiful place; except we rode a kamikaze bus trip nearly 2 hours to our hotel. During both marriages I cried like a baby.

Not trusting the numerous baggage handlers I brought a simple pair of Boldr Expedition divers. No problems in the salt water. A few months later the new SIL tells me how much he likes the dark blue faced watch (then on a blue leather) so I gift it to him.

Now you need to complete the story, what was on your wrist?

I wore the Wolbrook Skindiver. I first wanted to wear the Alsta Superautomatic but I would hate it when something happened to this watch (because of my own stupidity, not because I felt unsafe), so it became the Wolbrook:

It is surprisingly clean. Garbage trucks come by every day and you see many shopkeepers and restaurant owners sweeping the side walk or their area in the morning. Lots of trash cans in the streets.

So not like Greece at all then (when I was there)
