[align=left]Pilot and dive watches

From the heart of the German watchmaking district, Laco has been producing fine watches for more than 80 years. As one of the original "B-Uhr" pilot watch manufacturers, Laco continues to offer high quality pilot watches with classic designs. Behind each watch there is a history, and this is especially true for the Laco watch. From the beginning until today still one thing has remained: the love for the watch in general and the love for the detail in particular

To me they look very similar to some other brands that I have seen posted on this forum before. Many of the "pilot style" watches all seem to be copies of each other in my opinion.

I just got my Laco Observer ETA. They are extremely hard to find. The official Laco dealer informed me that mine is probably the last new one available in the US while an even newer more expensive similar 'B' model will be released this Fall.

The model I have is the Laco 60884. I understand that it means series '0' and that there are other series which look almost identical.

It arrived with an outer box and inside was a black 'leatherette' soft zipper narrow valet case. Inside was the watch with the black leather strap with their ventilation system already on the watch, an additional brown strap (these alone usually go from $45 to $60 USD depending on the exchange rate) and booklet with 2 year warranty.

However, I realized that the crown on mine was different from the one posted and after researching same, have noticed that this particular model actually was made with one of two different crowns.

First, the ones in most photos as TVDinner posted above show a '1/2 onion' that apparently screws down.

Second, similar to the one on the quartz version, is a more historically accurate 'diamond' shape crown that does not screw down. Mine is the later.

However, otherwise, the watches are identical and have the same water resistance. The Laco dealer I had purchased same from checked with his Laco factory representative who stated that the newer ones did indeed have the diamond style crown that does not screw down. However, the dealer is not certain if it was a replacement to the other style or "...just what they may have had on hand to build the watch." Remember, Laco did have some financial problems that were described in the press in some more detail approximately last year.

Any comments or explanations from Laco themselves would be appreciated.

I was between this model and the similar one that Aristo puts out. It is almost the same but the Aristo is 40mm while the Laco is 42mm, but I understood the Aristo had a screw down crown. I will be posting a picture of that watch later.

The price difference between the two is approximately the value of the additional strap that came with my Laco. Most posts state that if given the choice, they would go with the Laco because of both quality and 'pedigree.'..any thoughts? I will post photos later.:pk

The one above is the one I have...the 'diamond' crown that is a pull out one.

The following is the one with the 'half-onion' screw-down type.

i've just been looking at the Navigator w/Miyota mov't and i'm wondering- since the watch is made in Germany using a Japanese mov't, is the strap Italian leather?
