Invicta "blue" dials

I have the Invicta Odyssey Slim in allegedly silver/blue. The watch dial is advertised as blue blue blue. In any and all lighting condition, to me, it looks purple purplepurple.

A year ago I ordered my firstInvicta watch, allegedly with a blue dial, only to discover that it looked purple to me. I returned that watch. I call this false advertising.

On another watch web site someone asked Jim Skelton if Invicta has ever made a watch with a purple dial. He said no, never, not yet.

I say that when Invicta says blue, what they really mean is invicta purple, and this is common knowledge, right?

Does everyone agree or not?

Why oh why does Invicta does this weird color thing with blue that looks purple but they insist it is blue, oh luuuucy, youhave some "splaining"to do.

I'd love to hear comments on this. Thanks all.

Here's an "Invicta Blue" dial watch.

This was a cheapie I got originally but people always comment on how nice it looks.

Guess it's just the color combinations.

Henry,
Not an Invicta apologist by a long shot but maybe I can offer a different point of view; there are so many combinations and interpretations of blue that it would be impossible to quantify. Yet, they are referred to as some form of blue or another. Yes, there is the traditional blue that most of us would agree on but even then would you not agree that it is subjective at best?

An interpretation of "blue"

Blue - Variations: Encyclopedia - Blue: Blue is one of the three primary additive colors; blue light has the shortest wavelength range (about 420–490 nanometers) of the three additive primary colors. The English language commonly uses "blue" to refer to any color from blue to cyan. An example of a blue color in the RGB color space has intensities [0, 0, 255] on a 0 to 255 scale. Blue is the complement of yellow.

I appreciate your point of view Henry and clearly when someone or an entity refers to "blue" we naturally revert to our conception or interpretation of "blue". In this case though Invicta's reference to the color blue clearly does not match or meet your expectations.

I also experienced a similar "let down" on purchase when the term red was used but in my eyes it was clearly orange.

Hope this helps.

CJ

I have actually seen many Invicta watches with blue dials. At the recent PA GGT I think I saw about 30 of them in all different models....

I have owned 2 Invictas with really blue dials, bezels, etc.

I guess I sort of expected some WFs to agree that some of Invicta's blue dials really look purple, not blue, but so far no one has stepped up to the plate. My disappointment is that I picked two watches that I really liked, but to my chagrin the two that I picked both look purple. Oh well, there are plenty of other watch makers out there. Thanks for the responses.

Wow you guys are fast! I have the 5782 and trust me it looks nothing like the picture, it is purple.

henry - I agree with you that there are DEFINITELY 100% some blues that have a purple shade to them. I think it just depends on the model.

Tonight I was at Dakota watches at the mall buying a cheap rubber strap for one of my watches while my bracelet gets fixed and I think I looked at about 400 watches with different shades of blue, red, green, etc etc etc - everyone has about 200 variations of each color and there is no consistency with color charts, lol.

Sorry Henry, in my response I did forget to answer that specific aspect of your question; yes I have an Invicta RPD that looks more purple than blue.

Model 5782 just doesn't sing to me, so, sadly I will either sell it for $50 or give it to a family member. I haven't even unwrapped it yet. I hope to pick up the same Odyssey in silver but with a red dial. I am a little tired of the classic standard boring watches and am ready to venture into dials with colors just to mix it up a little. I am hoping SNBC has big sales and/or free shipping next week for turkey day. I hope you all keep us in the loop on what to expect next week at the shop.

you could get $50 for it easy if you listed it here in the For Sale section.

i bet it would not last very long.

I am a "blue freek" and would say that 1/3 of my collection has some blue or another. I just started to venture out this year with other colors and honestly I'm glad I did. I now have yellow, orange, green and all lume yellow. I think you will be happy "venturing" into different colors.

I only have 4 Invicta blue dials and they are not Purple, do they have a purple hue too them sure.
imported post

Ok thanks I think I will post it here for sale within the next few days. I've never done that before, but it should be easy enough.

Question, though: I really wanted the watch, so upon opening it, I registered the warranty under my name for 5 years. I kept looking at the watch and an hour later I decided it didn't sing to me, so I regreted registering it. I don't want to return it to the shop, I want it to find a good home, so I am not concerned about a $20 loss. Do you think registering it with Invicta in my name is an issue with purchasers? Basically I consider a $50 watch a "throw away" watch.

I am pretty sure the warranty is transferable!

JS is alwats saying this dial looks purple uder this light but it is blue. I think everyones eyes see blue differently

Henry, I was wearing my S1 Excursion yesterday and it definitely looks purple in most light. The thing is, I like it. It's a really rich color and it doesn't bother me a bit. You might want to try Renato's blue. It's definitely BLUE and it's awesome!

There are some Invicta blue dials that look a little purple under the right (wrong?) light . . . I guess it's just a matter of your own choice/preference.

All I know is I have had a couple of Invicta blue dials and they never looked purple to me. They just looked like a deep sapphire blue that I thought was beautiful.
