Hi James, I think if I did that my keyboard would start smoking, Theresa would run for the fire extinguisher and I would say "DAHHH, wasn't me" :lol! Seriously, I use a lamp with a 15 watt bulb when I have my laptop on a portable table. I have a lamp on my computer desk, also.....Bob

i need to do this for under the keys to my macbook pro, there are already led segments under the keys but a column of them are dead and i'd like to get a nice red illumination rather than the boring white

anyone know a guide how to dissect a unibody macbook keyboard and insert new lights??

I'm not familiar with the MAC's, but on the Dells you can just replace the keyboard. Just search for the model number on eBay and find a seller with the parts. They are cheap at some places and some are more expensive. I've changed several over the years and it is a very easy repair.
