I noticed my Saugro cactus was listing to starboard about a day ago and expected its imminent demise at that time.

We heard a thud earlier this morning and went out to find this. Fortunately, it fell where it caused no further damage, unfortunately, for the 4 families of birds nesting in it, only the bottom condo with the woodpeckers survived.

Cause of Death? Pathologist Chazman upon doing a Post Mortem on the dead body found it waterlogged, and the water weight made it collapse. Cacti need limited water to survive, and although it wasn't on our trickle system, nearby bushes and palms were.

That is quite sad... I love cacti as "house pets" ;)

Are you going to replace it with another ?

So the sprinkler system actually was the culprit Chaz? 😵🌵

Well that is some fine detective work right there ! 🔍I bet it is
something that has happened often to people, and that they
never knew why it happened to them. But now you figured
it out sir. ;) ..But yes, still is sad that you lost the cactus like
that. It looks like it has to have been fairly old right?! Plus as
you said was the home to many birds over the years.

Have to thank for the report, as well as for closing the case !!! 😎

Had to be the trickle system, it doesn't rain very often out here when it does people run out of their houses to stand in it, just the opposite of when I was in Chicago

Undecided right now, there is also an additional surviving nest on the part on the ground with the mother bird going in and out of it, so we will probably give it a week or two until the baby birds leave the nest.
