Ian Fleming the author of all the James Bond books was a WW2 spy himself and he sort of created the James Bond character off of himself to a degree. In his books, he only refers to the name Rolex, not what model he was wearing.

Since Fleming's almost life-long wristwatch was the original three-hand Explorer, that would have been Bond's watch of choice. When they started filming the movie supposedly the props man forgot to get a watch and one of the people on the set loaned a no-date Sub for Connery to wear... The rest is history. Wish I knew the way these watches were going to go up in value back in 1967 when I was on a Navy ship and could have picked one of these up for $180 back then.

Wanted to save the $60 I did picking up a $120 Zodiac Seawolf instead. Thought the Seawolf was a sharper-looking watch than the Rolex and had more important things to spend the $60 on, like booze and broads.

It’s such a neat story Frans, and I am wondering if we will
ever see James Bond wearing a Rolex. 🙂😎 I guess that
it’s doubtful, but the history is there to be repeated right?!

I remember you talking about getting that Seawolf, and
that you liked it so much back in the day. And wow,
hard to believe it was almost as much as a Rolex. 😮

You know True, I literally watches almost all of the James Bond movies
over last year on Amazon Prime before Sea Connery passed away. Now
I want to go back, and watch them thanks to you, and this article, and
