Hello all,

This is my first post on the website, though I have been following it a long time. I hope I am posting this correctly, and that I am in the right section:

I just purchased a Seiko prospex diver model ssc017. Thought the black and blue match was great and I have been wanting a diving watch for a while. I purchased it from what I believe to be a reputable website (not sure I can mention it) and received watch very very fast, so they were very good with that.

My issues:
Watch does not look like the watch I have seen in EVERY forum and EVERY website.

In the pictures you can see the watch I received has an "X"(prospex logo)" and diver's 200 m under "SEIKO" instead of "SOLAR" and "chronograph" as it is shown everywhere else.

I called SEIKO and said the movement and model number matched, and thst it might be an international version. I have tried the impossible to see if there was another model with the "X" ok it for the ssc017 but haven't found a single one.

Do you guys think this might be a fake/ replica?

I can't help much here other than ask how powerful is the lume ? If lume sucks then it's gotta be a Feiko. Interesting post here, I look forward to our Seiko heads info here.
Looks great btw! I hope it's a real Seiko.

Cant find a photo on the net of this watch that doesn't have "Solar" on the dial, although this could be an old, early run of this model.

Tell us who the vendor is, and we can better determine if it is legit or not.

Thanks for the responses guys. I wasn't sure if I could post thst information on here. I bought it from jomashop, I have a few friends that have bought from Jomashop before (I havent) and they haven't had a problem. Everything works fine, the chronograph is great, and the the buttons screw on/off nicely to work the chronograph.

I will take a pic of the like in just a few minutes.

Watch looks great, so I'm praying to all the horological gods that it's real.
Stay posted for a pic of the lume

The serial number says 521655, which I believe in seiko terms it would mean it was made in 2015? (I think this watch came out recently, and don't think it could be 2005?), not sure if that might help

If you bought it from Jomashop, it's legit! I have never, ever heard of Jomashop selling a knock off watch, never!

I had the exact same watch last year. No prospex logo on the dial as this watch and it's brothers were not positioned as prospex? Could this be an updated version and Seiko put the X there to raise the retail?

Raising the retail price was probably not the main goal, as new and rebranded models usually retail higher than models they were replacing. Also, with the current value of the Yen, they may have raised prices for export models to help make up for it.

Seiko is really pushing their new international Prospex models hard as they FINALLY realized the demand for previously JDM only models.

Yep, I'm already sick of it, especially on the crowns. The machined "S" looked much better, and Prospex was better when it was just on the box.

fantastic watch. i'm certain it's genuine article. wear it well

that new Prospex logo tho...

I was a little thrown off by the Prospex logo as well... But i guess now it will look a little different from everyone else's? :)

Watch feels great on the hand, so I'm happy knowing I get to keep it.

Do you know if these will be widely sold in the US?

Lastly, shifting away from topic... I was thinking of maybe getting some different straps on the watch, maybe some Natos or Zulus, any recommendations?

Thank GreyDog.

I have read some of the posts and saw some of the things the posters requested to give more accurate info so I thought I'd put that information forward first.

To those who are still following, I got an email back from Jomashop, quicker than I expected to, asking what the exact issue was. I told the agent the issue and I am now waiting on a response. I know Ganson already made this very clear and everyone that posted also assured the issue, but I want to see what response they might give me...
