Sent my Glycine Airman 08 Chrono 7754 in for servicing.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes and how they do. They received the watch and called me to discuss what service I wanted performed. That was the first good sign.

Saltzman's is very good. They are the service center for many big brands here in the US. Here is the before and after pic of my watch I wore in Iraq that they restored:

Saltzman's is a Glycine US certified service center. The watch was running and keeping perfect time. However, it was only winding by the crown. It was no longer winding by the rotor. I have no idea why. So I figured it was time for a full service and get it working perfectly. I serviced my Omega last year and I guess this will be my service watch this year. I think I'll plan to service one watch a year. That way I'll keep a fund for when I need it.

They called me when they received the watch. We spoke about what problem I was having. It was a nice touch, as I had included a detailed document with my concerns with the watch. But they still called to discuss it.

I'll keep updating this thread as I get news.

I have received a detailed repair estimate from the repair shop. Very professionally done. They told me what parts need replacing and my options for a total servicing with replacement parts. I have chosen to go for the full service, timing, new gaskets and water resistant testing. They are starting the work now. I'll keep you updated. Next I should hear that they are shipping the watch back to me.

The number of dedicated shops that sell watches over here has declined. The shops that have an in-house watchmaker are close to zero. Dedicated watchmaker's shops are almost extinct. My parents lived above a watchmakers' shop owned by two brothers. I used to sit there and watch them work. I was 7 or 8, a long time ago. They had a huge workbench (in my eyes) and on there were many watches and parts scattered about and they had more work than they could handle. One of them always wore an eye-piece but on a pair of glasses instead of in his eye. The watchmaker's school I talked about in a previous post no longer exist. On-line there are more and most of them have specialised in the repair and restoration of the 'better' mechanical watch.

To be honest, I have no clue how repairs are handled now a days. Most department stores have a rudimentary service but that only entails battery- and strap changes. I guess the watches from the bigger brands are returned to the importer. One Rolex AD (the one I once bought my Sub) still has a watchmaker on the premises, they also have a dial change service.

Yes, keep us posted on the way the service went.

Dear Marc,

Your watch repair has been completed and is being prepared for shipment. Please expect your package within 7-10 business days. You will receive a detailed invoice listing all repairs completed with your watch.

If you chose to not have your watch worked on, or if parts are no longer available then your watch is being returned to you in the same condition it was received.

Back home today from the repair shop. Not cheap to fix, but this baby is worth every penny.
Four weeks from the time I sent it out to the time it was back, fixed and on my wrist. Excellent IMO. Highly recommend the service at Saltzman's Watches.

Yes, would like to see the details of this marvelous icon watch
What was "broken" etc

Im sure there is no medical privacy" laws included

Interesting to see. I've seen many others on FSOT threads

Glycine never. Owned a few, but none with the complexity of the Airman

I think its something we all need to know if we trade in used watches

To me, if no history is evident I just assume a maintenance is required, hence lower price on watch.

BTW. I saw last night, the episode on Impossible Engineering, TV series..
The Big Air Bus, double decker requires maintenance every 4 years. They literally take it apart. Imagine that cost. Well, its an "airplane"... so kinda related to the Airman
6000 sqft space inside.
