FUBAR Rolex journey

A little background on this one. Some dude was buying this watch from his buddy, some reason or another the deal didn't happened. So when this guy was going to return the watch he sat it on the roof of his car, and drove away. When he realized what he did he came back. There is more to the story but it isn't my place to tell it.

I bought the watch from him at a low price due to all the damage. Now I am going to resurrect it some, and maybe do some subtle mods to it. I haven't decided yet.

Ouuuuccccchhh ! How long till the dude realized that the watch wasn't on his wrist ? Obviously a high traffic area. Did he compensate the original owner ? Thats like having to make 3 years of payments on a car that you wrecked.
A crystal, a set of hands and ALOT of time on the polishing wheel should net you a nice Rolex on the cheap. Congrats, and good luck. ;)

The way I understood it, the guy liquidated his entire collection in order to purchase this Air King, his ultimate Grail. But then the other guy who sold it to him had second thoughts after the sale was over and done, and he wanted to buy the Air King back. So Bruce (the guy who left the box on top of the car), drove off to undo the deal, not realizing that the Air King wasn't safely strapped inside the car.

This sale is a real surprise twist! I didn't think Bruce would sell the remains off.

Very interesting!!!!!!

I would spend a "G" note and send it to Rolex for repair, you should get it back from them like new, unless it's a complete basket case.

Rolex wants as much as a new one to repair it. Not to mention there are way better options then Rolex.
WOW!!!!!! You got the infamous Bruce Williams Air King????????

May I be so bold as to ask how much you paid him for it?

I really thought he himself would send it to Rolex or some other local Rolex doctor to see what could be done.

I hope you got the whole shootin' match, that he didn't hold anything back: box, papers, bracelet, hands, crystal shards, etc.

You are going to forever be a part of a legendary event in the online watch world!!!!!

PLEASE keep us posted!!!!!
I paid $600 for it. He was going to part it out. He said some people offered him almost 1k for the Rlex brand parts and the warranty cards. But I was first in line.

For right now my watchmaker will get it running and I will wear it. I have some other plans in the works for a complete restoration (maybe) in the future.:smile-thumb2:

I will confess, I really enjoy Paul Pluta as Archibald Chesterfield III, a.k.a., Archie Luxury.

I've learned a lot by listening between the F-bombs, and there are many videos where Archie recedes into the background and it's Paul Pluta speaking to you again. But Paul does such a great job, it's hard to know where he ends and Archie begins sometimes.

Paul really knows watches and has very sound reasoning behind his recommendations on how to spend money on them. There are plenty of more sedate videos, too. It's not all harsh, crass Archie.

Paul did a great video for an 18-year old viewer who wanted to know what advice about watches and life Archie had for him. It was really great! Check it out ...

The hands may be gone but the cannon pinion actually looks relatively unscathed. Movement might actually be OKish

New case, hands, dial, crown and crystal shouldn't cost more than $5000-$6000 and it'll be good as new...

oh wait...

My bet is if Archie gets the watch for $500, he will have his advertiser "Watches On Time" fix it up on the cheap, then hawk it on the net as a Promo.

FUBAR? There's a term I hadn't hear in 14 years.
In Civil War Reenacting jargon "FUBAR" stands for
"Far From Being Realistic". Like when you see a
reenactor wearing polyester uniforms. Or wearing
non period correct spectacles.
