Hello, and thanks in advance for your help! I recently scored a U 706 movement Eco-drive and I am having charing issues. Long story short, I am a part time consultant for a local pawn shop for horological items.

Sitting in the cas for less than $30 was a Pro master JW0010-52E!!!! They know nothing about watches and I assumed this watch sat in a vault for 4-5 months getting no light. It was tagged as having movement problems. Again, I spent little to nothing on this watch!

I read in the manual it needs 3 days solid of charging when dead. A light bulb won't cut it, and the sun isn't out for 72 hours straight. How do I charge this properly? Again, the manual states it needs 3 days of charging or it won't set. As a heads up, it is analog/digital. You can NOT set the analog hands. You set the digital time, then that sets the analog time.

It holds some charge as the LCD turns on, and the second hand moves. Do I need to charge with stem pulled out? Do I need to do an all reset?

I've contacted Citizen and they are willing to fix it for free. I told them I had no recipt or warranty and they were cool with it. The problem is the lady I spoke with said most of the time, the battery is fine and just needs a full charge. I don't want to send it in until I've tried everything I can. This is only my 2nd eco-drive. I'm more of a Bulova/Hamilton guy. I don't know a lot about eco-drives, but I do know a basic light bulb won't cut it when it's dead. As well as if it didn't have a full charge, and sat in a vault for 4 months, it needs a full charge. Agian, the manual states: If the watch is almost dead (2 second dance, XX on LCD) it needs 3 days or more to even set the watch. But once the sun goes down, what do I do?+

Thanks again,
David

Thanks guys....I will do that. What should I do when the sun goes down? Should I move it to another light source? Should I charge with the stem pulled out? When the stem is in, the second hand ticks and uses energy. When the stem is pulled out, the second hand does not tick, but the LCD display is on?

Thanks!

I forgot my eco drive at a relative's house which was hours away so I had to wait a few months before I got it back. It was dead when I got it. I put in a window for a few days and that did it. It doesn't need 72 hours straight of sunlight. It also doesn't need to be in light 24/7. Also agree with assessment that if after 3 days you still have nothing that the capacitor will need changing.

Don't worry about the sun going down. Just get it as much sun as possible over a 72 hour period. Only folks within the arctic or antarctic circles for part of the year could achieve full 72-hour of sun! ;)

Thanks for the input guys.....It does charge somewhat. The LCD has the date displayed (Wrong of course) after just a few mintues in the sun. When I try to set it, is when it dies. I can set the day, date, time, timezone, location, and everything. When I push the crown back in, the analog hands start to move to set the time......THATS when it dies everytime.

I'm gonna let it sit in my window sill WITH THE STEM PULLED OUT until Monday. I'll let you guys know what happens then! Thanks again for the input!

Here's a pic of my watch. It was in the case for $19.99.....With a half price sticker. I paid a WHOPPING $10.18 after tax for this BEAST. Wost case scenario, I gotta send it to Citizen and be without my watch for a couple weeks. But they said they'd fix it for free!!!

That was a steal! Even if you have to change the capacitor, you're still way ahead on this one.
Which is why I GLADLY forked over $10!!! I figuered even if I had to dump $100-$150 into it, I'd still be WAY ahead. But, Citizen said they'd fix it for free without a reciept or a warranty!

Bulova is the same way.....Whenever I need extra links, I just call up the shop in NYC. 99.9% of the time, they send em to me for FREE! When you deal with higher end companies like Bulova/Citizen, they go out of their way for their customers.

You're one lucky man! No matter how this plays out, you got one hell of a steal! Hope you stick around and join the support group! ... we love to support the addiction! ;)
Oh I'll stick around. This is the second time I've been able to pull a score from a pawn shop on a "broken" watch. The other was a Bulova Accutron 26e02 Val d'Isere Diamond Chronograph. The one with 99 diamonds on the bezel.....Retails anywhere between $400-$900.

On a side note.....I found in the Manual for my watch:

"If a no/low charge state is reached, an ALL RESET and 0-POSITIONING will be required"

Since it was fully dead.....Looks like that will be step 1.....Once my little xx goes away on the Promaster, gonna do an all reset!!!!

DeathStroke:
Put that zilla in the window sill here in Malfunction Junction and the Texas
"Ole Sol" will recharge it mucho pronto. I'd even venture hours of darkness
will have no bearing on the recharge! My Zilla has gone belly up twice but
sprang to life in less than 72 hours. Courtesy of the bright Texas sunshine.

Any update?
Not looking good. The manual says to do an all-reset if the watch completely dies. With this model, you must put in Chrono mode, then pull stem out. Once stem is out, you press all 3 buttons for 3 seconds.

Everytime I do that.....The watch DIES!!! The hands start to spin around to "0 position" and it dies. I put it back in the sun light, and 20 mins later it's on and ticking. IDK what's going on.....

Just gonna send it in I think!
