Does anybody else make their own straps?

Is it just me or does anybody else make their own straps? I had the idea a while ago to save a little money and make my own (no pics)...kind of embarrassed at my attempts - they do look cool though. Not on par with some of the top names, but even with using vintage leathers and factoring in the time I saved anywhere from $100-300. I used an old ammo pouch that I paid $2 for at an antique shop. One I made with and old gun sling from WWII, again maybe $5 or $6 at a pawn shop.

Not that I'm against buying one that looks far more professionally made and really better made than the 7-8 that I've made. I just don't know how anybody feels about making their own straps.
