Sleeping on my side and using the nose strips helped keep the volume down. I recently lost 15 pounds and that apparently has also lowered the noise.
Excessively loud snorers should be checked for sleep apnea, a serious sleep disorder. Use of a CPAP (constant positive airways pressure) machines eliminate 99% of snoring. All you hear is the slight hum of the motor and a low hissing sound as the air is pumped thru tubing attached to a mask that covers your nose and mouth.
