I read an interesting thread at a popular website regarding Walmart carrying Invicta and that some are concerned that this will "devalue" the brand???
Doesn't Invicta and SNBC already devalue the brand? Hasn't the topic of price dropping by SNBC made the rounds more than once? Why would anyone care that Walmart carries the brand when the largest distributor regularly devalues the brand and it appears to be condoned by the manufacturer itself??
Makes no sense; as long SNBC drops their drawers on the pricing it's ok, just don't let Walmart??

Thoughts?

I agree with you CJ. I think Invicta has done this to themselves. They have mass produced a product that has and will continue to lose it's value thus making it worthy to be carried at WalMart. This is what happens when quantity becomes more important then quality. My comment is not meant to start any arguments, but I think the facts speak for themselves.

What is the difference between WalMart and COSTCO or BJ's or Sam's Club? We have names for the various selling outlets in the cosmetic industry such as Mass Market & Prestige. Why should watches be any different? I bought my Citizen at Kohl's and it is no different then one from a fancy jewelery store.

I agree with this statement above 100%

Makes no difference if they are in Walmart or the other locations mentioned above. Just another venue to sell the brand at. Eyal has never made any secret of his marketing and promotion to sell the brand at all price points. It makes total sense to me that you would see the brand at Walmart, the largest retailer in the world. I just can't believe that it took this long.....

:lol

I had to chuckle when the thought ran through my head . . .

WalMart . . . devalue Invicta????? . . . please!!!!!:wf

Invicta has already done that, themselves . . . they don't need be be sold at the world's largest retailer for that to happen.

I can't think of a single "current" model in the Invicta lineup that isn't already "devalued" since it's initial release. Devalued in terms of taking the original intent and execution of a model, and watering down so much that it's not even in the same league as the original. Take the original SAS 7750, and look at the current SAS models . . . they aren't even in the same league anymore. Besides the shell of a case . . . nothing is the same.

The issue isn't whether Invicta is devaluing their watches . . . it's how many got sucked into buying the watch at the higher prices . . . who's OK with losing their money (and won't say anything about it in an eternal defense of Invicta), and who has a few words to say about it and write posts.

The devaluation is self-evident . . . not from WalMart, or InvictaShark, or WOW, or Costco, or Sam's Club . . . .

. . . from Invicta, themselves.

BTW: A year ago (or so), I would have been upset to see Invicta sold at WalMart . . . however, I have come to accept that the Invicta "of old" (the Invicta I originally bought into) is now gone, and the current state of Invicta appears to be what the masses are looking for and I don't see anything changing (if anything, I see the current status of Invicta progressing ever faster). Rather than "fight it", I accept it . . . and respond accordingly. I am discovering more and more brands as alternatives to Invicta :)

I agree- well said, sir. The first Invicta I bought was purchased to be worn as a beater, an alternative to my Speedy that was taking a beating. I was surprised and impressed with the quality- 316L, sapphire, Swiss Made, etc. I ended up buying a dozen or so more during the next 2 years, mostly Reserve pieces (which I actually like). Over this past yearand a half, I have seen a decline in quality- they were commended by some for "adjusting with the times", helping watchlovers out during the difficult economic situation, selling high quality watches at low, low prices. Well, the prices got low, but the quality did, too.For me, seeing what happened to the SAS and SAN3 was the boiling point; I just couldn't proudly support the brand anymore, and started looking at alternatives...boutique brands whose focus is quality and service, and the "middle man" is still out of the picture. As I've said before, I can't blame Eyal for his decisions- he's clearly a smart and successful businessman. He did, however, and IMO, let 2 things slide during this past 18 months- 2 things that I will gladly pay a premium for and can't do without: quality and service.

Seeing Invicta in WalMart, to me, is NO surprise. A disappointment, yes, but after seeing the road they've chosen to travel (and have been speeding on for the past year or so), it all makes perfect sense. I guess it would kinda suck, though, wearing a $1,000 watch while someone comes up to you, asks to see it, then says, "Cool watch- did you get it at WalMart?" For that reason, I can see how some are a little twisted over this. Just my $0.02.

This very scenario happened to a guy on Geeks with his Omega that he bought from Sams Club!

My 2 cent's:

Invicta as a brand 10 years ago appeared to be a brand that was targeted at the watch enthusiast. Today, not so much. Every watch is produced in such high numbers, they have to be sold at places like Walmart to move product. I own 2, but will not be getting any more. I don't like anything they have to offer.

I've got nothing wrong with buying an Omega from sam's club, if the warrenty is the same no problems! With invicta how could you further hurt the brand reputation by being in walmart, might hurt shopnbc bottom line but walmart cant do anything that invicta hasnt already done to themselves!

I agree with Rick 100%, I havent bought an invicta for months. Remember eyal has to pay for all his toys. Like others here I have been buying other brands many that will hold there value for years to come.my buying habit is now changed.
