On 'another forum', someone broached the topic of "What Was The BEST WW-II Piston-Engined Fighter?"

... and I said that I'll always LOVE the stubby 463MPH (Experimental Variant) Grumman F8F Bearcat ...

... But, IMHO, perhaps the BEST piston-driven single-engine fighter in WW-II ...
... was Kurt Tank's amazing 472MPH (w/Nitrous Boost!) Ta-152! ...

However, when you consider OVERALL FIREPOWER, Über-BAD ATTITUDE. BRUTE FORCE And SPEED ...
... I'd HAVE to give my SINGLE VOTE to the 474MPH Dornier Do-335 "Pfeil" or "Arrow" ...

Everyones' first response would usually be either the Spitfire or Mustang.

Yours are thoughtful examples.

But I would at least have to consider the Russian IL-2 Sturmovik that was dubbed "The Flying Tank"
