Just arrived, this well-worn diver "ashtray", I believe from 1986. Original crystal is shot and difficult to source an original replacement, Harold (yobokies) has a dd, sapphire replacement which is on its way right now. I was unable to find a bezel insert but thanks to Artemis12 I got a NOS bezel complete with insert.

I've also found a correct crown as this is the wrong one (from a tuna I believe). The last thing on the list is finding someone to clean up the hands a bit, possibly remove some corrosion if that's possible without damaging them. Any expert advice anyone can give on this would be much appreciated.

Anyway - here are some "before" pics - hope to have "after" pics one day soon.

Thanks guys - almost forgot a wrist shot. It wears significantly smaller than a tuna can, with a much lower profile. The hands are not quite as bad as they appear under all those scratches.

Need to replace the crystal, see if you can pick up a sapphire one next! I am really digging this one, love the oversized crown as well.

That's in my first sentence Chaz, you mean you don't carefully read every word I type? :D

Sapphire on its way.
I guess me falling for the Evlyn Wood speeding scam didn't pay off 😢

Ooh neat Eric, can’t really give any expert advice, but can send
you a GIANT congratulations on this exceptional pick-up. 😲😉
I mean I love it just the way it is, but am imagining that it will be
unbelievably cool when you are able to put that new bezel, and
crown, and crystal in ! 😎 You have to be on cloud 9 right about
now sir.

I swear these kinds of watches look so far ahead of their time,
and that goes for today as well. Are you sure this watch isn’t
from 2086? 😄 Yowza, HUGE congrats once again Eric !!!

Thanks Tom. It's funny - the wrist shot pic (other than the thrashed crystal) I kind of like - the faded blue/grey tone of the insert with the yellow/gold on the hands kind of go well together.
Having said that - I'm gettin' this thing back to a better state.

You cleaned it up well, I can’t wait to see the replacement crystal. I’ve YouTubed some hand cleaning videos in the past, but never felt secure enough to try it.
I could say I don't have the tools/equipment, which is true - but what's more true is I'm afraid I'll screw it up.

You are very welcome sir. (y) (y) Yes, can see what you are saying
with the way it looks now. It's faded, and weathered, but still very very
cool. But yeah, it's exciting thinking of what this watch could look like,
and be Eric ! :D Going be something seeing this when it all comes
together E. Good luck to you, and hope you have a ton of fun with it !!!

I took my 6009 to my watchmaker but decided to go and get it back. Why? Because I missed it :D - well more accurately because A LOT of good NOS parts have been sourced now (but I don't have them yet) and why not wear it while I wait!

So another "before" shot it is:

Oddly enough I'm enjoying it in this weathered, survivor sort of state.

That will not stop me from bringing it back up to snuff. 🤨
