is it worth fitting a 4R36 movement into my SKX 007, to gain Hacking only.
am I right you would not be able to self wind it due to the screw in crown?

All my hand winders with screw down crowns can still hand wind, although most of them have Seiko nh35 movements. The 36 should still be able to hand wind

The 4R36 movement is wound in the 1st position and time/date changed in pos 2, so technically it's possible

My understanding that the difference between 4r and NH in Seiko's movements refer to branded and unbranded seiko movements. The NH are sold to third party watch companies who use the movement is their watches. The main difference between Seiko's xx35/36 have to do with the date complication. The xx35 has date only, and the xx36 has day and date. Both the xx35 and xx36 hack and hand wind. Every watch I own (Cronos, two Deep Blues, Heimdallr) that have the xx35/36 with screw down down do hack and hand wind when the crown is unscrewed. Essentially there are three crown positions: first position with crown unscrewed is the hand winding position, the next position out changes day/date, and the third position out changes the time. I have an Orient dive watch that does the same thing, but with an Orient movement

I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work as long as the movement fits into the holder.
