I love rotating bezels on watches...That's one reason I"only" have 3 watches that are not round...The other is, it bothers me to see around movement stuffed into a square caseback... If they could figure out how to make square automatic movements and squarerotating bezels maybe I'd consider moresquare watches...:)

I prefer the square /rectangular watches ...they are striking and look real cool under cuff links and long sleeve shirts . I own @ 10 .

Quick question. Do you only buy watches with an exhibition case back? I ask this more as a silly question but am curious to know.

I guess if they made them then, they can probably make them now.

NO, not at all... But if it has an automatic movement I prefer an exhibition case back... However, my new favorite DOXA diver (1000 meter W.R.) for example doesn't have one and it doesn't bother me because thefunction of the watch dictates that it should not have it...Not an issue with quartz watches...

I've seen a few square manual or hand-wind movements... That is unusual... Of course there are the very expensive Richard Mille and such that have rectangular automatic movements...

In my humble experiance, I've noticed that the populous is fickle; following the ridiculous trends of pop culture all over the place.

Only those individuals who truly have 'style' are willing to look beyond the current trend.

I remember the first non-round watch I ever saw. It was a Hamilton and it was tonneau or rectangle with a simple off-white face, brown strap, and gold roman numerals. The lasting impact is obvious!

My dad got that when he was a kid, from his dad. he can't remember if it was for high school graduation or confirmation.

He handed me an old box a month or 2 ago (that red one), the original that the watch came in, It also had an old Fortis with a broken stem and an oldLady Elgin my mom had. Pretty cool stuff.

Now that is truly a great story. Makes those pieces that much more valuable to you. Nice.

Tony, I enjoy my square, rectangular or tonneau shaped timepieces. Two of mine are over 70 years young, run like a champ. I did not know if or when they went out of style as some manufactures still produce them, and do a hell of job keeping the appearance of old school design.

You can keep your 50mm+ manhole covers, your dive watches and chrono's they serve no practical use or purpose for me.

I do prefer autos or hand crankers and I do like the exhibition back.

My oldies but goodies

I actually have quite a few square / rectangular timepieces. I especially like the ones with a rather vintage or deco look to them. Although I do have more "rounds" than the former, doesn't bother me a bit to buy them. If a watch sings to me, and I can afford it ....... I'm all over it be it any of the three. JMHO.

So here we are, almost 8 years in the business (With Reactor, 34 overall)and we cannot figure out when the square and rectangle shapes in watch cases became so unpopular.

Any idea on what happened? All of the guys/women in this forum really only show off or talk about round and 50+MM....

Love to hear what you guys have to say as we still think we can make a bad a** watch that is no round...

Thoughts?

Well....I have a few Rectangular watches myself...ones that I really like. In fact...the one watch I wouldn't sell or trade for any price is one that isn't round. My Stuhrling Original Madman Chronograph LE...#46/200

Now granted....I have way more round timepieces than square, rectangular or tourneau shaped....but...that's just the way I roll !!!! :BE

:%:%:%:%:%:%:%:%:%:%:%

Basically, I usually by round timepieces just out of habit....I guess because that's what I am use to buying.
