Wow, what a nice contest.
There are so many things and so many topics that could be discussed and in need of change.

If I could change one thing in this world right now, it would be the amount of poverty that has stricken the world and our country. So many hardworking people without jobs, not being able to afford to feed there families, people not getting paid anywheres near there worth or for the amount of work they do. So many homeless people. Being homeless is a growing issue, yes, some are there because of there own bad decisions, but so many people lost there jobs and were not able to recover and have found themselves without shelter, food and clothes. Like I said, there are so many things that need to be changed, but this one is a big concern in my eyes. So many people that have been laid off from there jobs , a field that they may have worked in for over 25 years, and now go to other jobs where they are getting paid half of what they were at there other job, and just scratching buy to make ends meet. I hate to see anyone struggle, as I know how hard it is myself. I wish there was just a simple solution, but I do not know what this is. Hopefully one day things will turn around, and hardworking people can have steady work and be treated with respect and be able to provide for there families the way they should. I hope my post makes sense . Thank you secret angel for the opportunity, and thank you for letting us express what needs to be changed in our world.

Great Post Chef and a hard one to follow as I agree with you on everyting.. The ONE thing that I would change IF I had the ability and $ is Animal cruelty. Its harder for me to watch an animal suffer than anything. Ive always said that Id buy a huge farm and adopt as many animals as I could handle.. Even that wouldnt be enough. People like Michael Vick shouldnt be allowed to walk this earth.. I could go on and on all day about this subject, It kills me inside knowing animals are suffering as I write this. If I win this watch can it be sold on the forun and the money donated to my local shelter or any ASPCA ?? If thats against the rules I'll e bay it and write the check directly and post all the details here..
Thank you
Mark in NY

Oh Secret Angel, thank you for another contest, what a difficult question you pose.

If you could change one thing in the current world we live in, what would it be?

A cure for all CANCER!

[flash=425,344]http://www.youtube.com/v/HuoVM9nm42E&hl=en&fs=1[/flash]

There is a long-standing belief among many conspiracy theorists that there will never be a cure for cancer. Why is it that they believe this?

Cancer has been one of the leading killers in the United States for many years. Cancer has claimed, and effected many lives over the last hundred years.

It has also caused for the medical community to raise billions of dollars. The billions of dollars that are raised pay the thousands of doctors that conduct the research. It also pays for the salaries of people that raise more money for cancer research. It also pays the salaries of hundreds of people that advertise for these organizations. Also, a lot of this money also goes into the pockets of politicians.

Much of this money is to convince politicians to be mindful of interests that pertain to cancer research and treatment.

Think for a moment about the amount of money that is spent a year on cancer medication. How many drug companies would go out of business if a cure for cancer were found? How many politicians would loose elections because they did not have the backing of these drug companies?

The tobacco companies are some of the strongest donators when it comes to political election money. If a cure for cancer were to be found, the tobacco companies would not have any use to support political elections. There would no longer be a worry about smoking causing cancer because there would be a cure. The tobacco companies would also gain money hand over fist.

If a cure for cancer were found, more people would continue to smoke, and many new customers would soon be added. Many of the smoking bans would be lifted in the United States, and the tobacco companies would have very little to fight for.

It was once estimated that one out of every thousand people in the United States work in some field that is linked to cancer research. If a cure for cancer were to be found, it would have a strong, negative effect on the economy in the United States.

If a cure for cancer were to ever be found, the medical community would see shrinkage of staff unlike any that it has ever seen. Unemployment would skyrocket as thousands medical, advertising, and charity professionals lost their jobs.

Homelessness in areas where research was centered would also increase.Support for this failed industry would cause for a raise in taxes to help support the influx of newly unemployed. This raise in taxes would then, in turn like other raises in taxes, bring more people under the poverty level in the United States.

There most likely will never be a cure for cancer. A cure for cancer could be one of the worst mistakes for the United States economy.

The end of religious biases. Most wars are fought over this and if all religions could just focus on themselves and not worry what other people in other religions are doing we would all be better off.

An end to world hunger......this planet produces more than enough food to feed every man, woman and child. There is no reason so many people die each day of starvation........

I would end all poverty in the world. No child should ever go hungry or be without sufficient clothing and decent shelter. The handicapped and the elderly should be able to live with dignity and comfort. Ending poverty would greatly decrease the crime rate and everyone could live with a greater sense of security. People would pursue higher educational opportunities which would benefit the world.

hmm, one thing...... well if i had the power to do so... i would remind everyone and change thier minds simultaneously, that we are all here together, and need to remember that we must not be in compettition, and that we shouldact as if all countries are really just one country/people/race and stop all the separate interests. now i guess that would mean i have the power to bring a single consciousness to all peoples in the world.. so does make me want to be "god".. i dont know, but i bet god wishes that would be the case. i realize that would mean changing everything.. really. so its a pretty lofty goal... but yeah.. if i could change one thing it would be peoples mindset about why we exist and why we are here. that "one thing" would change "everything " ! there would be love, real love and that would be a great gift for us all.
thanks for the opportunity to participate!!
sincerely,
russell gambino

I would want an end to racism/religious prejudice. with as many problems we continue to face as a nation, and as a world, as human beings we just seem to always find a reason to not like each other for one reason or another. I can dislike you if I know you and I realize you are a jerk, however, I shouldn't dislike you or discriminate against you because of your color or religious preference. It's so easy to place a group of people in category because it requires less thought. I wish that we could all just try being a little nicer. Life is already difficult enough.

Wow, so many good answers and I have to agree with every one of them. If I had the power to change one thing I think I would end cancer. After all that we have been through and seeing all of the patients at the hospital and clinic you realize that it touches so many lives, not just a few people. Good luck to everyone and thank you secret angel.

So many things to change in this world, but I would start by changing myself to become more caring and a better person..along the way I will help others to change themselves..so eventually we will become a bigger force with many different resources to tackle and help with the bigger issues..Hunger, poverty, abuse, health care..etc.
I believe it always start with us individuals to make the first step for change!!

The first thing that came to mind for me is 'hate'. If there was no hate I think other issues, like hunger, would be easier for society to identify, deal with and solve. Without hate there would be no racial or religious divide. Without hate there would be no war. Without hate mankind would be able to concentrate on famine, disease, and the environment. Yes, for me I would rid the world of hate so that the good of man could shine and the dawn of a new era would begin. (that even sounded a bit corny to me....LOL).

In the words of John Lennon: "All we are saying, is give Peace a chance".

these are all very good. something i see on a regular basis that i would change (other than, you know, stopping global warming, militant religious zealots, yada-yada-yada)-

i would make sure the veterans who have served our country honorably and bravely, get the benefits, services and treatment they deserve. for life. too often vets end up homeless on the street. unquestionably unacceptable. too often vets do not get the psychological treatment they earned in battle and deserve at home. too often amputees wait long periods of time to get prosthetics and physical therapy they deserve to get back to as normal a life as possible as quickly as possible.

for 20 yrs (since the 1st Gulf War), whenever i see a vet, a serviceman or woman in uniform (and it's convenient and/or respectful of their privacy) i thank them for their service to our country. it takes only a second, it makes me feel good and them like a million bucks. the WWII vets get a real kick out of it- most i've met think their contributions have been long forgotten. i did it yesterday to a young (female) Marine with my daughter in the back seat. she asked me why and i told her "because they have a very difficult and important job protecting us" (a 4y.o. doesn't understand the concept of freedoms yet )

I believe that if I could change one thing it would be the system of government we have today.

People are losing their homes and jobs. Thousands/millions living are in the streets. Drugs and violence are running rampant.

We ask our children to fight for our freedom and then forget them when they get back.

It takes a national campaign by news organizations to make someone take notice of the deplorable conditions in VA hospitals.

There is no reason to have a class lower then middle! No one should have to live in the streets.

If you fight for our country, you should get a free ticket for life. If a soldier dies for our country, their family should be provided for.

Why do I have to wonder every day if my four children will have a decent life??

The time has come for change.

I could add to this for hours. Thanks for allowing me to say my piece.
