I read an article last week that stated Swiss made watches (Victorinox, Wenger, Tissot, etc.) must contain a certain % of Swiss made parts to classify them as an authentic Swiss made watch. Can someone with knowledge about this please elaborate on it?
Thank You.
PLEASE DELETE! DOUBLE POST!

No idea how long you've been into watches
But back n tha day Invictas 2 talking heads
Jim Skelton and Mike Davis used to prattle
about what constituted being "Swiss Made"
to the point of billiousness.

I believe many of these companies outsource
Swiss components to 3rd world assemblers.

I know one company that assembles some of
their models in Panama. Swiss Made? Gimme a
break!!! It's the Global Economy.

Don't actually have a ton of knowledge, or know the ins, and outs of it
all Blue Oval. Like you probably, I always thought years ago that Swiss
Made actually meant that everything was 100% Swiss made. But I think
it was just 50%, and evidently was that way for a while. Where the
watches had to be assembled, and inspected in Switzerland. With
the movements parts containing at least 50% Swiss-made components.

Now today it looks like it's gone up 10% to 60% in total Blue Oval.

Here is a some information that comes from A Blog To Watch right
below. It all gets kind of confusing. ..Seriously some times you think
you get it, and then the next second, you are like huh. :twitch:

Here you go:

At least 60% of the production costs of a watch taken as a whole must be
Swiss-based.
The movement must still contain at least 50% Swiss-made components in
value (not in quantity) and at least 60% of the movement’s production must
be generated in Switzerland.
Last but not least, it also specifies that the technical development of
a “Swiss Made” watch and movement must be carried out in Switzerland.
Smart watches are also included for the first time.

A Blog to Watch with even more. Hope I helped, but I'm not sure if I did. :bounce: :)

AtomicTom, that article had some very encouraging information in it. With the new regulations going into effect, it should drive the bottom feeders out of Switzerland that pop up over night. Now, the real deal Swiss watch makers can focus more on their trade than having to worry about cheap competition.

One thing is as clear as mud. SWATCH has monopolized most of the movement
industry.
Watch companies have to play hard ball with SWATCH if they expect to get move-
ments for their watches. And of course the attendant rise in prices come in to play.
Guess this a "My way or the Highway" arrangements. Which I'd think would drive
some watch companies to use Far East components. They may have done it already.
But whatta I know? Well I know I'll never buy a SWATCH 51 POS watch. Understand
if it throws craps, it cannot be repaired. A $150.00 throw away watch. They must think
I'm Jack n tha Bean stalk.
