Hey, why invest your own money when you can get a bunch of public suckers to bankroll you.

Or maybe their broke, to much high living and no investing.

They probably pissed away more money each year than I have earned in my career. Thought this was unbelievable. They couldn't get a corporate sponsor to pony up 150k.

Meh.... Professional photo shoot with TLC for, wait for it....: $7500 (travel arrangements not included).

Now for some WiKi magic:

"Worldwide they have sold more than 65 million records and are ranked as the best-selling American female group of all time".

65 million records sold and now they are begging on Kickstarter? Were they ripped off by their management? (Like Boney M, sold millions upon millions of records but never made a penny out of it).

I love TLC, but dang man...I never get when I see successful people like this asking for money. Sorry, but I'm not supporting a millionaire. I'll buy the album when it comes out, if it's good.

A lot of artists are doing this now. Their records were always funded by the record companies and the business has changed. MANY of the artists from decades ago DID NOT make as much money as you think and after 20 years might not have the money to fund the production, marketing and promotion of a new record.

Major movie stars are funding movies this way.

It is the new way of doing business. Seems fine to me and you DON'T have to contribute if you dont want to or dont like the campaign..

I wouldn't give them the time of day! IMO they sucked but that's not my type of music. Someday I might try and pull off a stunt like this if I ever get the band back together! LOL

Agree with everything you're saying, which is why I never fund any kickstarter campaign.

Main challenge I have with Kickstarter is the reality of this business model is, when you donate money, really you're not an investor, you are merely donating your money. And it's more of a shopping situation than anything.

In a real investment situation an investor or "backer" as the term Kickstarter uses, the investor would be getting some equity in the company and or some type of revenue share on the back end.

And where big name stars like TLC are concerned (which again I love), who most likely have earned way more money than most hard working middle class folk will earn in a lifetime, just seems like they are using their celebrity status to fund a project that they should have money for.

But hey, I agree, it's smart business sense to use other people's money and not yours.

They went bankrupt
Like so many celebs the money gets spent and borrowed to keep it going, much like

Ummm.. US government, California....

When the "folks" can be persuaded to give up money to subsidize that lifestyle, well.. good for them

I read about some actor who said the movie Selma was kind of dissed from " black fatigue".
I get that, so much going on with no hint of common sense or truth and these historical movies bent to show a political or bias...
same in music or sports.

I am fatigued with the constant awards shows, the hype the media

The last thing I need was a discussion on footballs. What a crock
The world evolves around celebs who don't rate my time

This being a prime example.

Wasn't their bankruptcy like 20 years ago? Anyway, funding is $68K over their goal with 25 days left. Bet this one will go quite high. Good for them.
