Default Zodiac Watches Brings Back the Super Sea Wolf (via Worn & Wound)

Interesting news from Zodiac and for fans of the Sea Wolf. Here is an excerpt form Worn&Wound:

Quote:
Zodiac is among those handful of brands that we get pretty excited about here at worn&wound. Especially with their recent efforts to revive the brand by bringing back classic designs (see the Zodiac Watches Make a Comeback post for more) such as the Astrographic, Sea Dragon and the Sea Wolf. The brand has not been resting in the last year and are bringing back another iconic Zodiac design: the Super Sea Wolf.

The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf was originally released in the 1970’s as a “big brother” to the original Sea Wolf. The Super had improvements, such as a different case back design (screw down vs. snap back), a new patented crown and stem system along with 750 meters of water resistance (over the 200 meter for the Sea Wolf). It was also bigger, quite a bit bigger. The design has long been a hit with watch collectors and thankfully Zodiac has resurrected it for a new generation of watch buyers.

The new Super Sea Wolf, due out Fall 2015, clearly has the DNA of the original. The case is the same large cushion style case with covered lugs, measuring 44mm in diameter with a length of 50mm. The lug to lug makes it wear well for smaller as well as larger wrists, while really bring out that 70’s vibe. The hands of the old and new models are the same too, as are most parts of the dial. The text has been moved around a bit in the new version, but it is all pretty much the same information.

The new models have crisper and slightly larger printing on the bezel which is great for improved legibility. The new watches are powered by the Swiss made STP1-11 movement. The automatic movement has 26 jewels and a power reserve of 44 hours and is being used in a number of new Zodiac watches. The new Super Sea Wolf will have three models all with 100 ATM (1000 M) water resistance. The ZO9501 has a black dial with a sunray pattern while the ZO9502 has a blue dial with a sunray pattern. It appears both will come with a stainless steel mesh bracelet and a rubber strap. The ZO9500 also has a black sunray dial, both strap options and is also a chronometer. Not bad for under $2k

Not bad. Aboout a hundred cheaper than the Squale version. $1329 vs $1195, though the Squale has an actual Eta.

Very interesting. Another watch to argue against myself with.

Nice to see they are brining back some nice watches.

Garrick, you beat me to it sir. Just seeing these ! Zodiac has really been doing a nice job lately with their watches. Love the tribute to their heritage, and classic styles. These look very close to the originals, but have just the right amount of modern upgrades it looks like. Awesome !!! Thanks so much for the look !

While I'm sure its solid, I believe its another ETA clone, its safer to make sure a good warranty is in place.
Not too sure how "solid" it is , the movement has been around for a while and threads on the subject, abound in the web....
It is a Sellitas clone indeed , some said the STP-1-11 is actually a clone of the cloned Sea-Gull ST2130 ...all of them in turn, a clone of the ETA 2824-2
To me it reads eerily like another controversial Swiss Made in China movement, in a Claro CL-888 kind of way (also widely used by the Fossil made Zodiac).
Case work is identical to the Squale 101 which is fitted with a very well regulated ETA top...I personally fail to see the point of the Zodiac re-issue

Agree , if it is 60% Swiss parts , the movement is Swiss and is cased in Switzerland , plus the final inspection is also done in Switzerland.... legally can be called Swiss Made, ethically however? not sure
All this pretty much means that the Swiss Made label these days continue to be a joke...that been said
Personally, where the watch was made is totally irrelevant to me, if the quality is there and like the design? I buy it.
My point is ....In this particular re-issue you can buy an almost identical aesthetically designed watch (Squale 101) with a far better movement for the same money, so why I should spend my money in a lesser offering...?

Default Seems every year they're changing designs >>

One year quartz, next giant and then classic.

Seems like you have to grab something you want before the end of the year before they switch it up again to something else.
