Default What a week

Debit card information stolen earlier this week. Bank caught it and denied all charges but now im out a debit card for the week between the storm and work.

Then tonight I had to get eBay involved to cancel sales on two watches due to scammers, then had to fight to get negative feedback from them removed. Spent 2 hours on the phone with eBay between 3 different people and got escalated twice. I finally got the sales cancelled, the payments refunded, and the negative feedback removed.

EBay finally googled the buyers addresses and saw all the scam alerts on it...

2 hours i will never get back and i have to be up at 0430 for work.

I swear im done selling anything on ebay

Don't blame you. It's fast become a haven for scammers and sellers of fake watches

Its gotten bad lately.
I have a nezumi and an undone watch on the way so I figured I would sell my helgray since I'll have meca quartz more than covered.
This isnt the first time i have had to deal with a scam buyer...the last time was with a cell phone I sold and it was a nightmare to deal with. Ebay sided with me that time too buy PayPal still gave the scammer the money back so i lost the phone and didn't get paid.
Thankfully eBay finally looked at all the evidence and sided with me this time around too but it took two hours on the phone, 4 different people, and 2 escalations to make it happen.

Im going to stick to just buying on eBay.

Ouch!
Sorry to hear that. Ebay needs to get their act together and find a way to go after these scumbags. I had sold a piece....or so I thought, ...then guy disappeared..no payment . Help from fleabay ? Nope, nada..zilch. There was a time when they would hold folks accountable..now it's tap dancing

EBay SAYS there is "seller protection", but in reality unless you have overwhelming evidence in your favor, they almost always side with the buyer. And as i learned before, even if eBay sides with you, PayPal can still side with the fraudulent buyer and they don't seem to give two shits what sort of evidence you have....they sure didn't in my case.

During my 2 hours on the phone with eBay last night i kept asking what they were going to do about this obvious scammer. The evidence was clear, yet it seems like because he has good buyer feedback they are just going to let it slide. I have no doubt the scammer will try again with other people. Hes on my block list now anyway, but I pulled the few items I had for sale off eBay and i don't plan on relisting them.

All those fees ebay and PayPal take and they do nothing to help weed out the scammers or punish the ones that get caught.

So sorry you had to go through all of that WM. Yowza, can only imagine,
and what is it with these scammers?!! Seems like everyone is having,
or has had issues at some point with them, or one. But somehow either
the company, or companies like Ebay, or Paypal, and even governments
don't seem to know what to do.

Then on top of that, evidently don't always side with the good guys like
yourself?! Or at least put you through the ringer with all of the stress
you have to go through just to get help. Or have the right thing be done
in the end. Really is like the Twilight Zone honestly.

Sorry once again about everything sir, but thanks a lot for posting about
all of it. Think it shows just how rampant the problem is, and that it affects
so many good people like yourself more, and more every day.

Wow! I am sorry to hear about your luck recently. The good thing is, you’ve gotten much of it fixed, and it will get better, and karma should give more for your trouble.

It’s interesting that that the ‘bay is so buyer-focused, when they are scalping so much of sales from the seller! I stopped selling stuff there last year because of how much they took, along with ‘pal fees.

Anyway, look forward to good things soon!

I'm also done with the Bay...I got hit hard by buyers in NY. I would ship to them and never receive payment. When I asked the buyer why they didn't pay? he said the watch never arrived. I gave him the tracking number but he refused to drive to the post office. Another buyer said he never received the watch I sent and I received notice from USPS that the watch was "undeliverable" but they never sent it back to me!

I've sold dozens of watches on the bay and 90% of the transactions went through without a hitch but all in all after the two major hits, I was losing too much money with them...

I have been buying and selling on eBay UK since 2003 and it still is the only place I sell my watches. I have been the victim of scam attempts but I have always found both eBay and PayPal an absolute joy to deal with and I have never lost any money. The most annoying thing on eBay for me is other users stealing my photos and descriptions. I have been threatened too on occasion when I have approached the other sellers and asked them to remove my photos. This was rectified pretty easy though I now watermark my photos with my username.
The worst thing when someone steals your photos is that your item has much less chance of selling especially if it is a higher ticket item.
Anyone looking to buy a particular item and sees the same photo's or description on two supposedly different items will inevitably buy neither.
I will continue to use eBay because I have have hundreds of positive feedbacks which obviously works in my favour and allows me to get the best returns.

I really hate to see stuff like that (debit card theft) happen to anybody.
But I don't understand the problems you're having on ebay. I joined in early 2000. Have over 700 transactions. Not one has gone sour. I have bought and sold cars on there and have never been involved with anyone who was even close to being a "scammer".
Do you ship things before you get paid ? I never ship anything until the money is in the bank. And I usually don't accept returns. So if you make sure your description is straight and support it with a good set of pictures. They got nothing. I absolutely love buying and selling on there. I'm sorry it didn't work out that well for you. Glad you got the debit card thing sorted out.

i never ship before payment is received.

even if you dont accept returns, ebay will basically force you to return for any old reason. and in one case where a scammer was using a proxy address to buy from another country, ebay sided with ME, but he got paypal to give him his money back anyway by claiming i sent him a cheap broken phone instead of the newer phone i upgraded from.

ive sold lots on ebay over the years with very few problems but it seems that ive just had a run of bad buyers and/or outright scammers recently and i just need a break from the scambay as a seller. i WAS trying to make some room for the FIVE watches I have on order....but i guess it will just have to wait.

Ebay is Paypal, I do not use PP Friends and Family or any other. I sell a watch I ask for a USPS money order and ship when I get it. I'm not a scammer and have lost sales because of this. But I know everyone isn't comfy with that way. Mostly I buy or sell on the forums or Facebook.

I gave up selling on Ebay years ago, between their fees and Paypal fees your profit margin is nil!

For me, eBay is a must for sourcing the Accutron parts I need to repair Accutron 214 watches, without eBay I wouldn't be able to repair Accutrons without charging big money to do it...

eBay still has it's uses but if you're going to try to buy a watch off eBay you really have to know what to look at and ask for pictures of it, And if they can't give you those pictures then it's always a hard pass unless you feel like gambling and you're feeling lucky that day!

Craigslist has also turned into a real dugout for d-bags. At least in my region. I've sold a half dozen motorcycles via CL over the years and each ad drew progressively more garbage. Sold my last bike through FB.

I still like buying stuff on eBay, but i pulled everything I had for sale off that site...
I do miss the wide reaching platform ebay has though.
