Default My Seagull ST19 movement has developed a fault.

Not a lot of sub 500 (slightly over $600) manual wind chronographs available in this price range especially when you factor in a column wheel.
I stumbled upon the TC9 Lunarscope which houses a Seagull ST19 column wheel chronograph movement, I was smitten.
Bronze cased great lume too for a chronograph, along with the champagne dial and the fact that it looks great on a number of straps tried on it.
When I received it I fell in love with it, a welcome change to the sea of divers that dominate my humble rotation.
I did not purchase it to use as a chronograph I purchased it because I absolutely loved the look of it, and I thought that I was onto a winner with the positive reviews of this movement.
The Seagull ST19 is an upgraded version of the Swiss Venus movement from the 60s.
As I said I do not use it as a chronograph, it is too difficult to accurately read the registers with my aging eyes. If wanted a usable chronograph I would probably go for one of the plethora of outstanding G-Shocks available.
Whether I use the chronograph function or not it has to work perfectly.
The watch in question is worn as part of my regular rotation and gets wrist time once every other week so not a lot of wrist time since purchased on the 31st of December last year.
The fault it has developed means the chronograph will not reset with a single push sometimes it takes four or five attempts. Totally unacceptable, it is still well within its guarantee so it will be have to be returned.
I am just hoping their customer service is as good as they state it is, well I am about to find out.
The last time I sent off a watch for service and repair was my Citizen Auto-Zilla, this was sent to Citizen UK and the service I received was atrocious. They had my watch a total of 6 months, the first attempt I had to send it back as it was worse than than when I first sent it in.
They ended up sending it to a specialist in Hong Kong because they couldn't handle servicing a basic movement, I was absolutely appalled so much so it has put me off ever buying another Citizen, and I probably won't.
Customer service is incredibly important to me, just hoping that I can get the service I deserve here.
Apologies for the serious ramblings, but these situations cause serious anxiety issues for me.
Wish me luck peeps.

From what you describe there, it sounds like the chrono reset hammer - not sure what holds it in place but it could be a screw or a stem bolt that is broken or missing.
I don't believe it 's a big deal to repair, if their CS is up to scratch that is

It does appear to be something simple, everything else does works as it should. Hopefully an easy fix and a quick turnaround.
They are based in London but originally from Basel Switzerland which is where their watch workshop is still located.
We will see what happens, when my beloved watches are in question I am relentless in my pursuit and will not settle until I am happy.

Yes, totally wishing you luck with this here Gary ! I know how much
you like, and enjoy this watch. So hopefully it's just a small issue like you guys
are saying, and everything works out fine. We will have to just think positive,
and hope that it's nothing like the Citizen situation.

Boy oh boy, and on the Citizen thing by the way. That really is something how
bad the service was. Honestly, out of all the watch companies in the world,
you would think Citizen would be among the best in the CS department sir.

Guess it's one of those bigger isn't always bigger instances. ..So maybe that
is actually a good sign for what you, and we can expect from TC9.

In any case, try not to worry, and keep us posted on everything !

Cheers AT, I will be dropping them an email this weekend and hopefully send it back next week. I think I am probably worrying unduly, it does seem like it should be an easy fix.
In the past I gave owned my fair share of chronographs mainly quartz and solar quartz, this one is by far my favourite.

I believe there is usually a reset button push sequence on a lot of chronos. I had to look up the one for my Filson chrono and it worked perfectly. Maybe there is one for the Seagull you could try first?

I have used button sequences for some anomalies on quartz chronographs, but this is mechanical.
Mine wont reset everytime on the first press of the reset button, sometimes it takes four or five attempts. The button seems to be engaging each time but not resetting. Possibly indicating a defective or broken component.
I will be sending an email to the seller today it would be superb if it was something simple like you stated. If it is something like this I am sure they will say before accepting it back.
Thank you...

Just checked it again this morning, this time the reset button did not feel correct in its operation, and still took several presses to reset.
I will leave it alone now so as not to cause any more damage. Hopefully I will get a green light to send it back next week.

I sent an email two days ago and still no response, totally unacceptable. Just resent the said email to their admin address and also the messaging system they use.
Perhaps my standards are too high but when I send an email to customer services I expect a reply within four hours providing it is within regular office hours.
I have worked in customer services, any email I received if it needed a response it would usually be dealt with within two hours with a maximum of four hours.
I absolutely despise being ignored, I just want a quick resolve, I hope I don't have to get paypal involved.
Let us see what happens, watch this space...

I have just received a response after a resend of the original email. I have a green light for the return.
I have to pay postage both ways, this is virtually unheard of especially being a warranty repair, I don't like it. It would be acceptable outside of the warranty but even then you would only pay to send and not for the return.
It can take between four and eight weeks for the repair, this seems fair and I have waited longer in the past.
I will send it back this week then hopefully I should have it back on my wrist within two months.

At least things are in motion now Gary, and you are able to send
the watch off. The postage thing is a bummer, but it will all be
worth it if that beauty comes back hitting on all cylinders.

Now we just have to hope these couple of months fly by sir !!!

Thanks very very much for the news !
