Default Evine is dead ! Long live Shop HQ !

So as you all might have heard by now, Eyal Lalo's cash cow the Evine channel posted a 21 million dollar deficit in the last quarter. You know some heads had to roll. To the rescue comes Eyal with a 6 million dollar infusion of cash (which probably got him a seat on the board) and a new name as of 8/21 Shop HQ. Assuming that the HQ stands for High Quality, Invicta's presence there would be "questionable" at best. But they do sell a lot of other brands too.
While on the subject, I couldn't help but notice over recent times that Invicta is beginning to move away from its chief automatic workhorse TMI/Seiko NH35A and is beginning to use a hacking version of the Miyota 821A-21D without the screw down crown meaning that none of their watches equipped with this movement will be carrying a WR rating better than 100 meters. You know how Eyal likes his outrageous WR ratings. Could this be a sign of something bigger ?
Anyway, being a fan of the channel when there is nothing and I mean nothing else to watch. I sometimes tune in and get sucked into the hype. So, yes I bought a Bolt Sport with this Miyota movement in it for all of $99 to give it a ride. Details forthcoming...

im actually looking forward to a good review of that watch and movement.

surprised about the 8xxx version miyota though...figured the NH35 was good enough and cheap enough for them...not like invicta needs to worry about needing a slimmer movement for their watches.

also surprised about their newer watches not having screw down crowns. seems like an odd place to cut corners given invictas past obsession with higher WR ratings. maybe people are caring less about that nowadays.

100 meters is more then enough even for a dive watch, as long as it is pressured tested in actuality to that atmos, even real divers rarely go deeper then 30 meters!

it isnt just depth that can create pressure. if your in a pool at only 2 meters, but moving your arm around while swimming, that action is creating water pressure on the watch greater than the actual depth you are at. thats why many watches rated for 50 meters state they are not suitable for swimming even though swimming pools are not 50 meters deep.

If Invicta would return to the older high volume models I'm sure they can revive Shopnbc, Evine, Shop HQ or what ever nameplate they will finally decide on

I have not purchased any watches from ShopNBC or Evine or any other name in years, but I like to tune in for about one minute here and there to see if there are any new trends in watches. So far I have seen nothing new. It's all the same old fashion watches. When ShopNBC became Evine that channel was taken over by Invicta and rarely presented other name brand watches, and today they may as well call it Invicta HQ. I guess I don't really mind because it is what it is. The reality is that the audience for traditional watches is shrinking every year, and smart watches or a cell phone is now the norm and the watches you and I wear are old school.

I lost interest in ShopNBC long before it's downhill slide into "Evine". At one time, they featured other decent brands in addition to the tacky, wall clock sized clown watches that we're still seeing today. Deep Blue, Vostok and others have disappeared since it bacame the Invicta channel. To each his own I guess, but I grew bored and moved on.

You are correct for the most part. Due to the fact that Eyal came to the rescue with 6 mil should make it the Invicta channel. And for the most part, it is. I did find out that the HQ stands for Headquarters, not High Quality. And if you don't want to watch their boring lame hosts, you can always browse the items on the show on your PC before during and after they've been on. But you got to catch them sales at the right time.
Also, they do have a lot of collector shows featuring brands like Edox, Bulova, Glycine, Timex, Seiko and Tissot. They also bring to light brands you've never heard of like this Nubeo brand I saw last week.

WFs:
Acct of my SCUBA diving, Iron Man Triathlete's, pronouncement the he or none of the
divers he hangs with, ever dive any deeper than 140 ft. If a watches WR is 100 meters
it works for me.
If I thot I was Jaques Cousteau, I'd wear my Reactor Prisma. Double seals at the Crown.
But I kinda sorta like Glycene. Never sprang for one yet.
